Default Trusting UnZoone??

I posted here a few days ago about the upgrade and not being able to run the software due to a "Missing Zune.MSI" file. There've been a number of other folks with the same problem. I posted the same problem on the Zune.net board and got this response:

re: "Missing Zune.msi"

This sounds like the Zune uninstall hack you used left partial Windows Installer information for Zune around in the registry.

Are those fellow sufferers also people who used Unzoone?

You could probably run the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility - it sounds like Unzoone left an orphaned partial registration for Zune around, and the Clean-up Utility would likely catch that.

If the other people who are running into this are also Unzoone users, I bet it'd be straight-forward for the maker of Unzoone to fix their tool.

After reading that, I ran a search using the BASIC search tool and found all of the following folders/files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\Zune.cat (Modified 12/4/2007)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\Zune.inf (Modified 12/4/2007)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\ZuneDriver.dll (Modified 1/11/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\ZuneIPTransport.dll (Modified 1/11/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\ZuneMTPZ.dll (Modified 1/11/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\ZuneUSBConnection.dll (Modified 1/11/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Zune_DB73D7C30D7F4F9D 21BA672D3234B307FEDB21F9\Zune USBTransport.dll (Modified 1/11/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\UMDF\ZuneDriver.dll (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneIpTransport.dll (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneMTPZ.dll (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneUsbCOnnection.dll (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneUsbTransport.dll (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneBusEnum.exe (Modified 4/29/2008)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZuneWlanCfgSvc.exe (Modified 4/29/2008)

At the beginning of May, I installed an update that the software had been telling me was available for weeks. When I did that, the software would no longer let me play any music or videos within the program. So before I downoloaded and installed the 2.5 Update on May 10, I Unzooned. These files are the remnants.

If UnZoone is leaving all of these files, one can only wonder whats being left in the registry.

Unzoone has worked repeatedly for months and many users.
Try running it again.

It isn't updated to uninstall 2.5, I contacted UnZoone and they said a new version will be released very soon.

I didin't use it to uninstall 2.5. As I said, all those files were left behind when I used it to uninstall 2.3 BEFORE installing 2.5. I just used Remove Programs and the Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility to uninstall 2.5 and I'm about to try to reinstall 2.5 now and see if it works...

I know you're a big fan of UnZoone and I'm a big fan of you, darlin'—you've both truly come through for me in the past. But I still question why all those .dll files and whatnots are still on my system if the program is supposed to "thoroughly remove it from my system." I know I'm not a computer guru or anything, but shouldn't those be gone also?

In the search for Zune in my Registry I came up with:

Default REG_SZ (Value not set)
m3ufile REG_NONE (Zero-length binary value)
Microsoft.Zune.2.M3u REG_SZ

Don't know what those mean either.

I personally have used Unzoone a few times without any hitches. It has a proven track record though pretty much every program isn't perfect.

As long as it allows you to reinstall, I think the few files it may leave behind are bearable.
