i used my dads 4th gen ipod for a while and having used my zune for a couple of weeks now i have come to an intresting conclusion. in the ipod i didnt mind if there was no album art (obviously it had a mono screen) or the artists menu for cluttered with doubles due to misspellings and featurings eg:
'vincent vincent and the villais' instead of 'vincent vincent and the villains' or 'kanye west' followed by 'kanye west feat x' followed by 'kanye ft. y' etc. in the zune it drives me mad if this happens. what is up with that?! ![]() |

Grab MP3Tag and all your problems will be solved. I also like you have to have everything 100% organised (nothing can be wrong or missing art)

My problem is the Marketplace will Re-Tag everything I do. So its telling me my Elton John song (One off the album) is a Rock song and the others (On the SAME album) Are 80's. Go figure.

I'm the same way as well. If your Zune and iPod share the same library or files, then correcting everything in iTunes will fix itself in the Zune software as well. Music organization was no problem for me since it's always been organized. It's my videos that are driving me insane. No order other than alphabetical. It's insane!

I am obsessive about correct (IMO) MP3 ID tags. First, turn off the automatic artwork, tagging, etc. in WMP, iTunes and Zune. They'll trash your work every time.
Second, if you are ripping CDs, use a ripper like Exact Audio Copy that will tag your music from freedb as you rip. Finally, always check your new tunes with Mp3Tag BEFORE you open Zune, or WMP, or whatever, to make sure that they jive with the rest of your collection. Otherwise, you end up with Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, etc. Mp3Tag will get the correct album art from Amazon almost every time. If it doesn't, you can use Google Image to find what you want and then use Mp3Tag to set it. Oh, PS, I never let GENRE tags into my collection unless they match my carefully selected (small) list. Who needs Rock, Rock & Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock/Pop? It all goes in Rock. None of this seems very important when you have 100 songs. I've got about 6,500 songs on my Zune80; having tags organized is a must if you want to find stuff. ![]() |

In my opinio the ipod user interface was seignined along time ago and dosnt stress metatags or album art. The zune software is brand spankin new and since metatags and cover art is all the craze right now it is more dpendent on these things.

On the iPod, you have three basic groups, Movies, TV Shows, and Music Videos. With TV shows, you can break them down into seasons and by episode numbers etc. Perfect. With the Zune, you can only do this with other software (strike 1), and not with the .mp4 format (strike 2 and 3). Come on!? I have two iPods and a Zune. All of my videos are in .mp4 so that they can be enjoyed on both devices. I barely watch videos on my Zune just because of the hassle it is to find them.

That's no excuse (at least to me). iTunes will find album art for you automatically and it actually changes to metadata of files when you edit them (if you have it set to). The Zune software is supposed to be the iTunes for Zunes, but it fails. Microsoft knew what they were doing when they released it. Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar company with unimaginable resources in terms of software. The fact that they put the Zune software out like they did was laughable. There's no excuse for them not to have put in the work and money for a completely functional music and video organizing software for their device. If I didn't like my Zune so much I would've switched back a long time ago . The funny thing is that I have to use iTunes to edit and sort my music for my Zune. It's much easier and efficient.
