Microsoft now charging for Zune Originals engraving
In case you hadn't noticed, MS is now charging for the engraving of designs on their Zune Originals website. It's $10 for the Tattoo Series and $15 for the Artist Series. You can still have custom text engraved for free if you'd like; they aren't charging for that... yet.
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I tried searching for it but didn't find anything. If it has, feel free to lock/delete this topic. I dunno, maybe it's old news... I haven't been here in a while.

Not sure if anyone has posted this before though... but yeah I know about this. Plus it was expected though, I mean the zune originals site said "waived" on the cost for engraving,etc... for a while. And something can't be waived, if it didn't already/or is going to cost something am I right?? But what ever I already got my black zune 80 originals back in the "waived" days of zune originals so it's all good. Payed 250 + 16 tax. So 266 in total, not bad really.

Yeah, I got my Zune 4 back when it was waived as well. I suppose it was expected... since we now know the site will be used for special edition colors, the site saying "waived" makes a lot more sense. I'd assume they're going to charge for these colors as well as custom text in the future. It would probably be best if they just kept the custom text as-is however, as Apple does that for free.

Microsoft has a outside company doing the engravings. The outside company is the one thats charging MS for engravings now.

No, they've been charging for at least two weeks. Both mine and my wife's were $10 for the tattoo with free engraving. The art is $15. Just engraving is free. Still not a bad deal, considering no shipping costs.

Well this doesn't surprise me, it IS Microsoft.
But the art designs are ugly as **** anyways, I'd rather get an engraving.

What worries me is the fact that the color's say "waived" Will it cost money to get a green zune instead of a black one!?

Probably because for now it's waived..eventually it will cost something. Something's price can't be waived if it isn't going to cost something or is going to cost something later on. In other words if it's waived now it means it will cost money later on. To be honest I think the puke green on the zune 4/8 would look fugly on the z80. But looks fine on the flash zunes.

Well yeah, i'm not saying it'd look good on zune 80, lol. But yeah, I don't see why different color's would add extra cost. Shouldn't they all cost the same? I mean I understand that waived means it will cost money, but that's not what I'm saying. It just seems ridiculous that getting a red zune instead of like black or something would cost extra money.

If they produce a lot more black players then it could conceivably cost them more per player to produce other colors, but I'd guess it would be more about demand than what it costs them, if people will pay a premium for a certain color, you can charge more for it.

I like the idea of charging for engraving. This way less people will get it making the Zune truly original.

Good point I guess, but still... I'd rather it be free. I hardly see anyone with zune originals anyway.
