use zune without software?

My main computer freezes whenever I run the zune software. I tried restarting it, but to no avail.

So, I installed it on another computer, and went to driver details under Device Manager for the zune. It said it used WudfRd.sys and wpdusb.sys. Is there a way to use these on another computer as the driver, so I can just use it like a portable hard drive? I know that the zne software calls other files when syncing, but is this just for the software, or is it actually required for using the zune?

Oh, and as a side note, when I pasted the two .sys files, one of them was already in System32, but was like half of the size.

EDIT:I plugged the zune in, and it brought up the add hard ware wizard. I chose To search and install the driver manually, and then chose to choose the driver from a list. At the bottom was like Windows CE embedded device and something like Windows Portable Audio player or smth. I chose that last option and on the next screen chose mtp device, and installed. Now, in my computer, when I connect the zune, it has an icon that says zune. If I open that, there are two empty folders named Data and Media. Also, a little autorun diolague comes up, and an option is to sync with windows media player. If I click sync, it spits out some errors. Any suggestions to get it to work?

EDIT 2: When I go into device manager and go to driver details for the zune, it has wpdusb.sys, but not WudfRd.sys. Could that be part of it? I notice the the registry section where the zune is is also very different. Does that have something to do with it? Also, when I plug it in, the Zune doesn't show the connected screen thingy.
