Oh please, that can be said with any electronic product. None of them are made to last forever. If they did their price would be much much higher and companies would not make money. They make a product with the intent on it lasting until you're ready to upgrade or until some part or aspect of the product begins to fail. With digital media players, like the Zune of iPod (both of which are not made to last for too long), that would be the battery. It won't last forever and either that or running out of space will be what drives you to upgrade. Or, if you're like me, you're willing to pay for "new" products.
That's the perfect reason to buy one since most people don't drop their devices out of cars going 50mph and such. If you read the revew about how it came to be like that you'd realize that the original Nano was pretty durable. In a case it's as solid as a rock. If you're interested:
