Default Best Buy Screws Potential Zune Buyers

alrite well we already no that best buy isnt the most zune friendly place. well i was there today with my dad because i had a $50 gift card and he needed a zune case for his ne/ my old zune 30. while he was doing that i was looking at the new zunes to see if anyone would come over and help, they didnt and i was more disturbed when i went to use one of the new zune 4 s and i got this

the "to start please visit..."

they didnt think of updating the zune so it would be able to work, so ppl could use it and find out they like it.

what the hell, do they not want people to buy the new zunes.

any one else see this in their best buys?

this was in brick nj

Best Buy is heavily invested in iPods. If you ask about the Zune, they tell you to buy an iPod. If you look at a Zune, no one helps you. You so much as glance at an iPod and you get "Do you have any questions about the iPod?!" and sometimes they unplug them so that the batteries are dead. Nice, huh?

Yeah maybe Best Buy, but worst service.

Actually the whole 'to start please visit' idea is a mystery to me. Why did Microsoft do that? Why not have it useable out of the box? People would need to plug it in eventually and an update would occur then.

I think this is a retail problem for Microsoft when their own show models won't work in the stores. hrm...I shoulda asked about that....

I've always assumed that they did it to prevent people from being able to use it before Nov 13. They knew it would get leaked out and since it wouldn't work on the old software, they wanted to just prevent people from trying. It also is easier to do that so the initial firmware on the device can be a reduced version, without all the features.

Fact of the matter is generally speaking Best Buy has relatively poor customer service to begin with. Should you have found a working Zune, the likely hood of someone being able to answer your questions is limited. I have spent thousands of dollars with Best Buy in the past, but I tend to avoid it if at all possible because of their utter lack of semi intelligent and knowledgeable customer service people.

I don't care much for Circuit City either, although that is where I chose to purchase my Zune's, but I would never had done that if I had been paying for them out of pocket. (I had gift cards that covered the cost)

I try to stick with a brick and mortar store that's local if at all possible, or the internet.

Like others have said, Best Buy is very anti-zune. I've been looking at zune accessories and have been told that the ipod stuff was further down the rack, and did I have any questions?

Was not amused.

I actually saw this at my Best Buy here in New Hampshire some time back and was very disappointed especially when I realized that someone had actually turned of the function to your the touch pad so that it looked as tho the new Zunes were not touch sensitive. The fact that they are not on the shelf wit the new interface and updates is crappy and no one in the store even looked twice at me when i was looking at it...

I love Best Buy, but the people who work there are about as knowledgeable as a bump on a log. Zune and Microsoft have really pay close attention at how Zunes are being shelved and displayed in the stores.

I haven't been to Best Buy in ages. I don't really care much for stores; I'd rather buy online. It is stupid, though, being so anti-zune like that. Just cuz they're grinding so hard on the iPod's figurative dick doesn't mean everyone's going to be happy with them damn things. Give the people some knowledge on other choices.

Ummm, thats what I got at BB trying to access the social, but that can be excused.

The thing I am mad about with BB is the fact that the Zune's are always dead.Next time I go in and see that, I will be asking why.

F Best Buy. one of the worst places to get assistance and also to work for. my bud was a supervisor in Media (CDs, DVDs, games, etc) and said they had an opening and to apply. i applied and after a month of interviews they told me there was no opening and i would have to work my way up from cashier. after two months i was fed up and quit. and if they try and tell you that no one at best buy works on commission, that is bull excrement. if i sold so many warranties in a day or magazine subscrips, then i got $5 gift cards for best buy or starbucks or jamba juice.

i still shop there because of their PRPs (Product Replacement Plans, not Product Service Plans like they have for high end stuff), but for MP3 players and game systems, the PRP is awesome. i bought a PS2 back in 2003. the PRP lasts for two years, and costs around $20-30. the day before it ran out, i told them my disc tray didnt close all the time and i got a voucher for what i originally paid, no questions asked. well after 2 years, the price dropped to $149 so i had an extra $50 to buy another PRP and a CD or two. well after a year+ the thing stopped reading discs so i took it back no questions asked and got a new one, well then the price dropped to $129, so i had enough to buy a new PRP. in about a year im going to send it back and use the credit to buy a Wii or 360 (unless the PS3 is worth it by then).

Possibly to keep firmwares up to date so that people can't do firmware hacks, like with the PSP?

That is the exact reason in all my post that refer to them as "Beast Buy", I have never had a pleasurable visit to them to buy anything. you know you got money in your pocket ready to buy somethin and BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "BEAST BUY" demon rears it's ugly head omg, uh sorry about the flashback, but yeah I agree with most of the above. sigh
