Default future file formats

Will Microsoft ever expand their file format support for music and videos? Why not be like the Creative Zen and allow avi. mpeg4 wmv and more? What is their purpose for only allowing wmv? Such a piss off to the consumers.

this would be helpful but i would still want to convert my movies for size purposes. no point in putting a 1gb movie on my zune when i can have it be like 400mb and still good quality (after all zune screen is much smaller res than monitors)

Even if they did put in DivX and Xvid support, I'd still convert my videos so they displayed natively in the 320 x 240 resolution perfectly. All of my videos have english fansubs, so I need to be able to read when I'm watching a video.

I plan to put all of the Death Note episodes(1-37) on my Zune soon. It'll take so long to convert that's the only thing stopping me.

I would love to have xvid support. I have wasted so many hours converting videos on my slow laptop
