Default Zune 80 and Zune 30 Battery Test Begin

All within a 2 minute period, I powered them all on after fresh full charges. I have the earbuds that go with the player (except I have ultimate ears on the Zune 30) plugged in to them. I am going to run them all until they quit. All the players are on shuffle all songs repeat mode.

The 1st Round results were scary for Zune, but I realized I had left the WiFi enabled on the Zunes, so I did it again (round 2)

Round 1 Results (1/2 volume, Contunious library shuffle and repeat with WiFi on the Zunes):

* Zune 30 - 12 hours 45 minutes
* Zune 8 - 18 hours
* Zune 80 - 20 hours and 20 minutes
* iPod Classic 80 - 31 hours and 15 minutes
* iPod Nano Fatty - 24 hours and 20 minutes

Round 2 Results (1/2 volume, Contunious library shuffle and repeat with WiFi OFF on the Zunes):

* Zune 30 - 12 hours 15 minutes
* Zune 8 - 18 hours and 45 minutes
* Zune 80 - 24 hours and 15 minutes

I hope to have time to do a video test as well as a Zune 80 vs. iPod 80 test side by side with the same cd ripped and added to each of them in the same format soon.

Ofcourse these were probably Mp3s wonder if it makes a difference in WMA??

Microsoft’s numbers say up to 4 hours on each of the Zunes, we got real close to 4 on both as well.

* Round 1 - Zune 80 - 3:40 | Zune 30 - 3:15
* Round 1 - Zune 80 - 4:10 | Zune 30 - 3:48

I didn’t change a thing on the two tests. I can only suspect that the disparity is due to the actual charge times.

I will charge them back up and run a couple more times before I move to the new MP3 full drain test again.

Both devices are fully charged and have been on their cradles for more than 5 hours. The only video on each of the Zunes is Linkin Park, Live in Texas. I ripped this video from my DVD at 25 fps @ 320×240 using SPB Mobile DVD. This is a program I have been using at this resolution on my Pocket PCs and Phones.

Both Zunes have headphones plugged in. The volume is at 10 out of 20 and the brightness is set to high. Since I have only this one video file on the Zunes ( 1:15 Minute Concert ), I will check them on the hour and restart the movie each time.

Smile Battery Life

Having over 30 years in the field I have seen experienced the progression of the battery. Most manufacturers say to allow most battery operated items to charge and fully discharge at least 3-4 times in order to maximize battery life. So I practice this on all of my like items. It seems to work for me. imho

Correct, I've let my Zune 30 discharge a couple of times and the battery seems to last much longer now.

Did I read the numbers wrong or did one of the zunes last longer with wifi on?
