Default Zune 80 Sold Out - Good or Bad?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/Technolog...767006988.html
http://www.crunchgear.com/2007/11/17...web-wait-what/

The Zune 80 is sold out everywhere and is extremely hard to fine. They are being sold for $300+ on eBay. Write your opinions, is this good or bad?

Good: Shows high demand for the Zune.
Bad: Losing a lot of potential customers because of unavailability.

I say bad. In the age of instant gratification, the fact that people can't hold in in their hands now is enough to make them look at alternatives, namely the iPod.

And what's the word on demo units? I doubt even those will be enough to win someone over in waiting a few weeks.

I'd say it's good - in a way. It's said people want what they can't have. And with the Zune 80 not being abailable, it's definitely bringing attention to the Zune. While some may be pissed like those of the instant gratification as Dizzy mentioned, I think it would turn heads. Now for Microsoft, initial opportunities might be lost - but I think in the long run things will be OK.

I've read many reviews of this being a bad thing - but what's interesting is it's bringing attention to the Zune 80 it would otherwise not have..... any press is still good press....

Most of the people buying Zunes on eBay are from Canada or UK, etc... They are willing to pay because they know they will never be able to get them anyways. Ha, there are more people in Europe and Canada with the new Zune than there are in USA now haha

Extreme shortages are totally bad. You should understock a little bit but when I had to go through 8 stores(all but one saying that didn't even get shipments of zune 80s) to find one zune 80 I was pissed. The people who think this is good are wearing zune launch goggles. It isn't that zune 80s are selling out, they're just way under quota, I saw tons of zune 4s and 8s. Microsoft had momentum going into the zune 2 launch, people were excited but they ****ed up on a major scale. I am loyal zune bought the zune 30 day 1 and waited breathlessly for zune 80 almost having a Christmas eve-like glee the day before launch and If I didn't find a zune 80 I probably would've bought Ipod like a majority of people. Unbelievable. When you are an under dog to the juggernaut that is ipod this shouldn't happen. Microsoft is purely to blame for the zune 80 shortage and consequently the loss of A)Disappointed Zune fans B)People wanting a new mp3 player. Welcome to the social? I think not. Way to **** up another one microsoft.

The Zune selling out has created a "Wii" type situation, Ppl want it just because they can't have it ,
On the plus side, The flash Zunes are selling very well VS The Ipod Nano.

The wii was selling out because massive amounts of people were actually buying the system. They used their hype to their advantage selling 300k+ each month while the zune 80 launch was plagued by the fact that most stores didn't get shipments of the damn thing. Your wii argument is flawed.

Edit: P.S The reason zune 4 and 8 are selling well is because they were actually sufficiently stocked, you inadvertently proved my point.
