Yeah I was pretty disappointed to find out the new zunes didn't have an eq. But with me, I would of probably not of used it anyways. But it would still be great to have as an extra feature.
yeah this is something that people would have only used once to get the sound that they want. the sound quality on the 80 is very good so its kinda pointless

Yep, sound quality + earbuds are amazing..... I could care less about the EQ if I had a zune.
The sound quality on the zune is really good. Equalizers are fun, but sometimes you've just gotta settle. The quality is really great (especially when I tried a 320kb album... just wow. Sounded like crap on my old nano). And the 80 has line out! I use it all the time (settings>display>tv out).
I agree for the most part you do not need an eq. However if you have a subpar (128-156)kb audio rip, the zune actually makes it sound worse. I guess you kinda get spoiled from a really good rip.

I only rip my music to 320kbps mp3. My music sounds great on the Zune.
I only rip songs from my favorite bands in that. Playing music at that speed and browsing through song lists is too slow because of the memory it takes to do that. Everything else is regular 128 kbps.
EQ is overrated. The sound quality is awesome on the Zune. I hear things I have not heard before in my music. I am wondering if they do any on-board processing to tweak or alter the original music. Each sound has great separation and clarity. Great stuff.

Reason: I wanted to add more.
I'm sure a lot of people know this, but for those who don't, the reason it doesn't have an EQ is because the hardware doesn't support it, they opted for a more power efficient chip from Wolfson this time around, so they could achieve acceptable battery life, especially with Wifi on. They probably could introduce a software EQ, but software EQs suck, so it wouldn't be useful for anyone interested in sound quality anyway.
The Zune has great sound quality, I wouldn't use an any EQ adjustments if it had them, they usually muddy things up. A better option than an EQ is getting good quality earphones that have good synergy with the player.
I talked to Zune customer support and they said that EQ was an option that was not wanted by the customers they polled!
Also they went ahead and measured the 80gb Zune themselves and they said yes its slightly skewed and thats how it is supposed to be. What the hell? Doesn't Microsoft know that symmetry sells!??!?!?
What?!! I wasn't polled. What a crock!! These advanced media players are supposed to be all about customization so why not at least give us an option of utilizing it or not. That is so stupid. HEY MICROSOFT! PUT THE EQUALIZER BACK ON!!!!!!!!
