Well... I'll be....
I am currently looking at software that I can use to re encode my MP3s with the EQ I like. I am then going to listen to that and see how I like it. If i can find an easy way to "modify" my mp3 files then I may decide to keep it.

Well guys, here is what I truly beleive:
I think MS needs to hold on to some feature for future updates. Think about it, one of the great things about the Zunes are the firmware updates and the fact that MS actually gives it to us, EVEN THOSE WITH PREVIOUS DEVICES!
Just wait a few updates, there bound to be some surprises to come! they are planning this thing out well. Don't jump ship so soon.
BTW, as I said in my other post, my zPad is right in the middle.
BUT, can anyone else testify to being able to hear the disc drive spinning and writing when you change songs or sync????

yeah, I get that too...it seems since the device is smaller, you're closer to all the action.....that's what I think....
And I'm not sure we'll see an EQ added.....read my earlier posts.....

The Zune has wifi, the iPod has an EQ. I prefer wifi.

I read that post before, and you are probably right. I just hope they are holding out for something in order to really distinguish the 80 fro the 30 =P

Yeah the sound quality on these units is awesome and makes it worth having it. i think the designers really wanted you to hear every instrument clearly rather than have it be muffled by an equalizer.
i don't see how it will lower sound quality, but it certainly does tweak it and most people aren't as big of an audiophile as the rest of us.

To add to that, I think it may be a tribute to the artists and producers who make this music and spend hours, if not days, toiling over getting the sound just right. You spend a day getting a rift just right and then have it fed through a compressor and the messed up by an EQ and see how warm that makes you feel.
And I agree, while there is a small % of audiophiles, who require total control of their music, most of us don't care that much. but it seems audiophiles hate iPods...take a look at this:
iPod Classic.... especially the iPod Classic 160Gb and even the iPod Touch....and it's not the first time....

Sarcasm on:
Perhaps Microsoft polled its potential customers and found that they wanted an equalizer on a 30GB unit but not on an 80GB unit.
Sarcasm off.

I owned the zune 30g and the sound quality is not near the 80g....it sounds so good that when you hear it....you will say i can live with out the EQ...crystal clear highs.....creamy mids ..and nice bass-perfect. I hookd it up to my amp with some HD650...and all my files recored in WMA lossless.....talk about sweetness. You got to hear this thing....with my Super Fi 5 pros...the zune 80g truly sings. Get over the EQ because i was pissed myself...but i had to try it. THE SOUND QUALITY COMING OUT THIS THNG IS BEAUTIFUL!!

I disagree. Maybe it's just my personal taste, which is likely, but I think the 80GB Zune's audio is kind of weak. My old 8GB Dell DJ owns it as far as audio output quality. With the same audio files, headphones, car stereo etc.
I understand not everyone will have similar interests and preferences when it comes to media ( or anything), but I did purchase this as a music player primarily. So no EQ just doesn't make sense in my case.
Lastly an issue like this, the random rebooting, and the really bad software combined will no doubt inevitably have a massive negative effect and I don't think MS is taking it as seriously as they should be. Firmware updates/fixes are great but not everyone has the patience, including myself.

I agree! Why wouldn't it have an EQ? just doesn't make sense right? :jon:

I believe it's report, not reports. I can live without the clock and EQ. The Zune 80 is better than the 30.
