the people they polled didnt' want one?
who on earth did they poll?
i mean, EQ has got to be STANDARDIZE, it should be a no brainer, it's like having AC and AUTOMATIC WINDOWS. there is no reason to take it away.
EQ was one of the big edges (probably top 2) that the zune had over the ipod. why would you voluntarily take away your own edge?
You are a great moderator I see in almost every thread i read and post in that you are on top of things, giving your opinion, warnings, and advice to others! Keep it up CameleonMK!

If you really feel you need an EQ then let MS know how you feel. Clearly they respond to popular opinion regarding this product and apparently enough people initially said they didnt use that feature. Personaly on my wife's 30, we have never adjusted it but we have it running through the car stereo so we adjust it for our tastes.
I could care less about it not being on my 80 and still don't really notice the offset pad. I mean, really...big deal. Everyone who has seen my 80 is jealous and wants one.
the whole eq thing is not really that big of a disappointment for me I mean it should have it but whatever what would make me mad is if my pad was of center like wtf is up with that at least my 30g does not have that problem

The equalizer, I've found out, is not going to be put in in future releases, but here's why: the hardware simply won't support it...before you go cursing MS for such a dastardly thing, here them out: In a recent c|net article, Donald Bell discovered:
Despite my whimpering about the removal of the EQ, Microsoft seems fairly confident that the latest crop of Zunes offer audio quality equal or better than the first-gen Zunes (which many considered better than the iPod's). In an e-mail conversation I had with Jason Reindorp, Zune's marketing director, he said, "we've gone to great lengths to ensure top quality throughout like with the signal path, delivering 32 ohms to the headsets, ensuring we compare very favorably to other devices like iPod in terms of signal to noise ratio." Jason may be right, but the irrational ape in me still wants the EQ back.
So I'd say don't knock it 'til you try it. From personal experience, using the same premium earbuds, the zune 80 sounds way better than my Zune 30.....hrm.....could MS know what they're doing?....

I've personally measured my zune 80 and it measures 22/32 inches on both sides....but it does look a little off. Could it be an optical illusion?
And I commented elsewhere on the NO EQ issue:

I call BS on that. It probably drained the battery somewhat faster, Which is common. But for the most part I think Microsoft was just being Lazy.

The sound quality could be the best ever, But it still doesn't matter. An EQ doesn't make audio sound Better. In fact it diminishes the overall quality by changing the decibels per octave(dB). Its generally used to make audio sound Different and more "Comfortable". If I'm listening to my device through a pair of small speakers, I want to make it sound better by turning bass down and increasing tremble. If I'm listening to a Podcast where its just people talking, I like keeping it simple. If I'm watching a movie, I like hearing everything going on. If I'm listening to some Techno, I want to hear the Highest Highs and the Lowest Lows. Typing this up I've changed my EQ 3 times(Trans-Siberian Orchestra,Creedence Clearwater,Death Cab for Cutie).
Call it what you want, but I'm only repeating what Donald Bell personally mentions in his article I referenced:
Before you dismiss the Zune's lack of EQ as a simple oversight in the product's firmware, let me assure you, Microsoft's decision to remove the EQ was very deliberate. In fact, when I spoke with Microsoft about the EQ issue, I learned that the EQ removal goes down to the very roots of the hardware, where they optimized the audio signal path to maximize both audio quality and battery life. In other words, don't expect Microsoft to add EQ back into the Zune with a firmware upgrade--the new hardware simply doesn't support it.
