Post Zune's new rating system

It has been confirmed. The new Zune software is going to let you rate your songs by either love (a heart) or hate (a broken heart) rather than going with the 5 star system. I find this to be a little strange and don't quite know what to make of it. What do you have to say about this? If nothing else, it sets it off more from the iPod so people can't say that Zune "copied them" even though the iPod didn't come up with it. So what are your thoughts?

I'm not sure if I it or not....lol
I think it is pretty interesting though....
I hear some people hate it....but it takes a lot of wishy washy votes out of the equation....

I hate that new rating system. Stars allow me to see how much I like a song. Wth.

Same here, rating should let you show how much you like a song not wheter you like it or not, giving just two options is oversimplifying it.

ah, oversimplification... There's a point to cut it off.. I think they just passed the boundary a bit, but I have to experience it to know how I really feel about it.

Ya, thats kinda dumb, so what happens when you have a three star song, is the heart cracked half way through?

I rarely rate songs anyways. So I don't care. (but man that is a bad idea)

Yeah, I don't take the time to rate songs. If I don't like them I delete them or hit next.

this is a horrible idea

heck, ill go as far as to say that i WILL NOT be using the zune software now

i spend a lot of time reviewing albums and songs and the 5 star system allows me to see whichs songsi love, which ones i think are great but not amazing, and so forth. it also allows me to quickly say which album i like the best from a band that i like (where odds are all tracks would be over 3 starts)

this is stupid stupid stupid. i may even get a new mp3 player because of this (in light of me not using the zune software, id rather something that syncs with WMP)

Not thrilled about this, but it is an easy solution for my wife who shares my library. Now she can't just rate the songs of mine she doesn't like with the broken heart.
For myself though, I personally like the 5 star rating.

this is just an addition to the ID tag, right?

like, it wont overwrite any of my ratings....right? so i can use zune software for syncing only and use WMP for everything else still?

this is such ****ty news...

Cool New Rating System for Songs

I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but the New Zune Marketplace will have a new rating system. Gone will be the 5-star rating system for a new like or dislike system signified by a heart or broken heart system.

Cesar at ZuneInsider has gone to great lengths to help explain the reasoning why.
Now for the backstory: I spoke with some folks on the design/dev team about this and picked up some of the reasoning and thinking behind the new rating system. Last year, we extensively tested the 0-5 star rating system with users – both on the current system and their potential usage - and learned a few interesting things. First, there was a great degree of confusion between different ratings for different users – e.g. a 3 star rating for one user might mean “I love this song” but for another user, it could mean “this song is just ok.” And when we asked users if they would rate content using the existing system, 90% said that they wouldn’t. So we had to figure out a way to implement a rating system that users both understood and would be likely to use. We tested several different variations, and in the end users gravitated towards the heart/broken heart system, as it put track ratings into more human terms. Hence, the new rating system.
What do you guys think? Do you like it? Hate it? Be sure to vote (notice I used a similar rating system as the new ZM's...)

interesting. The problem is that we are switching from an analog system to a digital one. You can't say this song is better than this song but worse than this one. It is either good or bad.

Honestly, I didn't use the rating system before and I still won't, so it doesn't affect me much

I don't rate the songs myself, but since I have a zune pass, when I'm browsing music on there, I like to see which ones are highly rated, those are the ones I usually listen to.

I said no just because of the lack of variance. I mean it's a nice idea, but I think having just two options is lacking. Then again, I don't rate songs, so I don't really care either.
