Yeah, Microsoft just has tons of time to just put random lines of code that have no meaning or purpose? Yeah, that's how they became a multi-billion $ company with doing that? Lame....
I do wonder, however, if Zune Marketplace is just a shell or built from WMP11. That would explain some of the plug-ins/visualization - but my theory wouldn't explain the Windows Live Support, nor the AAC or podcasting since WMP11 does neither of those things.
It'll be really interesting in the next couple of days since tons of rumors ar flying that either tomorrow (or is it today? - WED May 30, 2007) or June 1st a major announcement about the Zune will come out.
Another theory of mine is these may have been ideas that just fizzled out. Rumors are flying about a Zune 2go device that would rival the iPod shuffle. It would consist of a card that is reloadable, even tradable amonst other owners to share music. That would be a departure from what 1st generation Zune was set out to do.....or maybe they'll have both to wage war on two fronts?
All the speculation!
All the mystery!!
Will someone give me a pill to chill with!!
I can't take it!
mwahahahaha

im waiting for a new firmware, with a few added features as well, like a clock and perhaps just tetris for a game system.
i was thinking the halo 3 zune was the big announcement. i really hope that their is good upgrades to the 1st gen zune that was promised.
these added features, if available in future models of the zune could lead to taking a big chunk out of the ipod sales, leading ipod to step up their game, then the zune would counter. competition makes for good better pricing for us and better features. but with what i read about 1mil iphones to be sold close to their debut date, and it took the zune over 6months to sell that many players, well time will tell.

You can't really compare iphone to zune, 2 very different products. When 4G comes out iphone will look like a joke. Everyone is just jumping on it (like a few people I work with. damn apple lovers) because it is made by apple. god, apple just makes me want to puke.
Of course it will take time for microsoft to compete with ipod. Microsoft has the misfortune of having the new product. People aren't going to just go out and buy one if they have an ipod in general working order. It is going to take some time (but not too long )for people's ipods to wear out to a point where they will have to replace. That is the target market for zune.
Microsoft would have to come out with something so killer to make people discard their perfectly good ipod or other device. This would be internet, xbox integration, apps and plugins and who knows what else can work with the hardware. Zune looks to have a lot more expandability (ie. WiFi) than the average ipod on the market today.
Remember that if microsoft went out and released new firmware that unlocked everything in the system tomorrow, then what would there be to look forward in the future? The more releases they put out, the more press they get and that is what they want. Marketing/advertising just works that way sadly

There is no doubt that the Zune Software was based off of WMP11, that explains certain fragments not included in this article that are from WMP11 (ie: Synced lyrics, sorry guys), but not fully erased, it is widely accepted that it comes from WMP11 and makes complete sense based off of both MS' history and the fragment evidence.
Where can I download something to use these hidden futures?
As far as I know, these are not accesible yet, so nowhere probably.
EDIT: Firmware 1.4 today, and another anouncement tomorrow...maybe the zune is holding back and tomorrow June the 1st we will see what it trutly can do...so much stuff going on, I need a coffe and some vicadin.

you ever get the idea microsoft is just messing with everyone and putting "hidden" things in just to make us think we are getting somewhere. maybe they are just testing how well you all can hack their stuff. either way nice job
i think your mother put "hidden" stuff like paint chips in your food as a child
The article was interesting but you could tell the guy who wrote it was a bit of a fanboy. Besides that he said apple owned AAC, which is completely untrue.
we should let them know we found it. maybe theyd open it up sooner. i dont see why ms is scared of apple, we could handle a few lawsuits i think.
lets see what they say on the 1st, maybe a firmware announcement? thatd be sick.
(i dont want to buy a new zune )
i forget where i read it (i think it was in a CNET interview with the chief of microsofts entertainment and devices division) but they said that all improvements to the zune will be in firmware so you will NOT have to buy a new one. thats why they shipped the original with WIFI and the super fast processor that it has.
I'm still waiting for some type of lossless audio support on the device. It's pretty sad when even cheap little flash audio players support at least one form of lossless audio format but the zune does not.
Microsoft doesn't care about it's customers. This is old news.
They do what's best for their business partners, not you.
If they think adding lossless will gain them a lot of customers, they'll do it.
Apple on the other hand cares about their customers. This is obvious from when you step right at the Apple store. They are extremely helpful.
Apple is not a business company. They're just following their God given will to deliver good products and make people happy, that's why they're so successful.
Truth hurts, eh?

What is Apple so succesful at?
only 10% of the computer market?
The iTV? It's a dud...
And when the iPhone hits and everyone finds out that the interface doesn't zip as shown in the commercials, Apple will be in trouble. Video, music, and internet on the a cell phone is a recipe for disaster. So what if you're watching Pirates of the Carribean and some one calls.....oops battery's dead. Sony tried this a long time ago and failed. Apple's stepping into a ring it has no experience in.
I think the ONLY thing Apple is successful at is marketing.
It flooded the market with their iPoods in late 2003
hiked up the prices ('cause everyone knows the more expensive, the better, right?) and then marketed their flawed player as 'cool'
Their PC marketing is clever and is gaining the company more sales, but has a lot of ground to make up.
Before you go and jump on the Apple ban-wagon and proclaim it as savior, I insist you take a look at this demi-god you've obviously bowed down to.
It's actually like 7%, my jaw dropped as well. How could these things grab a whole 7%?!
