The Seattle Times gets hands-on with the Zune HD, notices APPS?!?
The Seattle Times got a little playtime with the Zune HD. Among the things they've found were the little "Hello from Seattle" message moved to the side, rather than the back and the inclusion of "Apps" on the Main Menu!
Could it be true? Brier Dudley writes:

Even more intriguing is the "Apps" option on the Zune's main menu, but Pinero said the company isn't ready to discuss what sort of applications will be available, how developers can participate or whether it will be tied to the new Windows Mobile apps store.
Ha ha. Hilarious!
I thought Zune wasn't going to have apps from what Brian Seitz said in the CNET Podcast. They were into music more than having apps or crap like that. Music is what the Zune was intentionally for. Not games, apps, and what not. Now they're being hypocritical. Oh well. More fun in the Zuneland...
I wish there would be more videos of the Zune HD now that everything's been confirmed. I want to see everything it's got! =D

Right, but the video where that guy with the accent is demoing the internet talks about there being games and apps, but doesn't go into any detail. So I have a feeling there will be at least a few apps and games to start, and then some more later.
In another interview I watched that was just recently put up on YouTube, one guy made a very interesting point that I hadn't ever even thought of. He said, "Why make an incredibly beautiful touchscreen player with such powerful specs and the OLED screen, and only let it play music, videos, and pictures? The Zune line has 3 other models that do that just fine already."
And I agree. Why make a seemingly perfect MP3 player like the Zune HD, and not include something that'll show off it's power? Sure, it has internet and HD radio, and the other models don't have that. But those don't really put a strain on the device. Why put such powerful hardware inside the device and not put things on it to make it reach its full potential? That would be like buying a Ferrari but never going past 40 mph.
Another demo vid of the Zune HD with Brain Seitz. Nothing new or incredibly interesting, but it's still fun to see more videos of it. I was disappointed to not see the apparent 'Apps' menu, but then again MS might not want to show it off just yet.

Yeah, I guess you're right about that. If Microsoft wants to be successful, they need the apps, but also need A LOT more advertising of the ZUNES and not the Zune Software/Zune Pass. They have to put less ads about Bing, Xbox 360/Xbox Live and Windows, and more about Zune hardware. If they can't do that, then they won't be able to beat Apple with the music business.
Microsoft put almost three years developing the Zune HD and it won't be recognized if they don't put any ads about it. They made great devices, but they aren't shown off, unfortunately. That's all they need to do to beat Apple. There's way too many iPod users out there. It's time for a change.
ZUNE HD FTW. DFTBA

I hope companies take advantage of the apps like they did for the ipod touch and iphone. I can't think of any examples right now but I think some insurance agency has an app.

I just looked at the App store... unfortunately I haven't converted my other three family members to zune yet... and some examples of big companies using apps are The Bank of America, Ebay (if that counts), Sirius XM Radio, The New York Times, AIM (If that counts), Barnes and Noble, and Pizza Hut.
how do you look at at an app store when its non-existant yet? (and dont double post)

Reason: why not
i hope they have a sub menu under apps called games but now a days its basically the samething and i wonder if they are going to ask the microsoft games studio team to make a couple games and the xbox team to port simple arcade games like uno rush, hexic ,chess, space battle etc to the zhd
and its funny how MS has alot of resources but dont take full advantage of them
