Yeah, but it takes an unlimited amount of time to make an unlimited amount of anything. Also, they probably already have the devices in stock but are waiting until the release date to ship them out.

They may not have them in stock, but Microsoft may have given New Egg, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. a specific number of each model for each store.

It's possible Microsoft may be limiting initial sales to drive a crazy desire to have something that's hard to get. Remember when people were going crazy trying to get Wiis at one time?

I think most people fail to take into consideration that Flash Memory, Screens, CPU and Graphic chips like the Tegra Etc all come from other manufactures. And the availability of devices like the Zune HD all rely on the availability and cost of the components which make up the device.

I think if this was some type of ploy on Microsoft's part to boost interest and desire in the Zune HD, the device wouldn't be so widely available on other websites. And at this point Microsoft needs as many new Zune users as it can get, so that would be a counter-productive tactic. I personally would have thought the 32GB would sell out before the 16GB - Maybe Newegg thought the same.

yes, i was one of those people wanting a wii (sadly). but if microsoft does what the wii did, there will be a huge demand, and a huge wait for them. why would they make it a specific number though, considering they have time to manufacture more between now and the release date.

That only works on some things, sometimes. The Wii was Unique and New. Nintendo itself has a Major fan base spanning generations.

The Zune HD is new but not unlike the iPod. And the Zune fan base isn't remotely as large. So most people would just buy an iPod.

Its impossible to have an unlimited supply of anything at a certain point it just has to stop. You can only have so many made with the materials available/affordable.
