If this is true I hope it's harddrive based, I need the 120 Gbs of storage on my zune
it's doubtful. Hard drives have powerful magnets in them that would affect the touchscreen's effectiveness. It's more likely going to be SSD at 16 - 32 Gb capacities (possibly 64 - but don't hold your breath)

i wouldn't be surprised... they need to compete with the iPod. Though I hope it would be better than iTouch-es. I can't stand using them with my fingers. it's hard to hit anything.

I gather that this touchscreen idea will just get dropped into the "untrue rumors" bin like the Zune phone. One reason is because Apple has a patent on most of the common finger motions, MS would have to pull some new control scheme out of their butt to pull it off without paying Apple tons in royalties.

64gb and 128gb is possible.. but will be pricey.. which if it is too expensive, no one would buy. Using a Hard Drive based touch mp3 player, it is kind of pointless, it will be a bit thick.

That's simply a farce and untrue. Apple holds patents on certain GUI indicators such as certain ways an image scrolls as you move your finger, or the way a list will bounce at the end of a page, but other than that, Apple does not hold the sole rights to touchscreen navigation. That technology has actually been around since the 70s...

Apple has the first patent on many of the common navagation jestures, like the pinch, etc. I know several new smart phones with touchscreens that were shown at CES 09 might need to pay royalties.
Come back in 10-20 years and we might get a flash based drive that big and small enough to fit into a device.
But I really hope that MS takes the hint of "Ipod Killer" and makes the reverse touchscreen, otherwise they will still be viewed as an "Ipod copier". If they made a reverse touchscreen, I don't care how much it will cost, I will get it the day it comes out.

I also don't think the Zune phone would have worked, I hope for a Zune based program on Windows Mobile phone, especially on Danger phones since MS purchased them.
as excited as i am for this im still disappointed. I thought it would be like another couple months till a new zune came out. like closer to my birthday, but my birthday is like 6 months away=[. and i only have 50 bucks i gotta start saving up
