Default CoolTechZone.com Article Hints at Future Zune Developments [Speculation]

n a recent special report from CoolTechZone.com, Gundeep Hora got some intersting insights from Microsoft reps at CES 2008. The article covers how Zune is becoming more of what the press originally branded it - an iPod killer, but near the end, he gives some hints as to what what may be in store for Zune in 2008.

As surprising as it is, at CES 2008, Microsoft's Zune is really starting to emerge as a serious threat to Apple's crown jewel. Sure, it's not going to capture the market rapidly and growth will be gradual, but Microsoft has the right ingredients.
Says Hora. He goes on to compare how the initial reaction to the Xbox and where it is today mirrors that of Zune. Then he begins to talk about his impressions of what the representatives from Microsoft were saying.
After interviewing with Zune reps at CES, we got the same sense of ongoing developments and a long-term strategy from them....they will continue to update it with incremental feature updates once every quarter. These will be "soft" upgrades....and Microsoft acknowledged it might let users create their own designs (Zune Originals?), upload them and have them printed and shipped accordingly. It doesn't get any better than this....It can only get better for Microsoft from this point forward, or at least we hope.
While it's unsure as to who he talked to, or how valid this information is, suffice it to say it's intriguing none-the-less.

As always, we here at zB will continue to bring you latest in Zune-related information!

I'm thinking the Canadian release may be what we can expect from 2008 Q1...Although I hope for more...

They said last launch (for the 30gb) that they'd send out an update for new features by Spring.... never came. =[

Here's how the quarters break down:

Q1 starts: Jan.1
Q2 Starts: April 1
Q3 starts: July 1
Q4 starts: Oct 1

I really hope we see games soon. Start with something simple....like tetris....i do love tetris!!!

Thank you, I was actually wondering how they broke down, and with that info, remember the front page news, MS is doing games in July. Knew it was one of the J's, just wasn't sure which one.

I wonder what's going to come about next quarter then, also, M$ has 6 months to do games, probably will do Tetris 'cause it's easy with all the devices, and Pac-Man. They just need to get the rights first.

I can't believe it would be too hard to get the rights. Tetris or some form of it is everywhere. Mobile phones, for one.

Come on April 1st! I can't wait! I mean, whatever it is. It's obviously got to be something that everyone is going to love.Microsoft cares about it's people, something Apple doesn't seem to do.

I just hope they actually deliver on-time. Look how long everyone waited for an update last year.

They only have done one each for both the device and the software. I honestly see them better with updates than most, 'cause both of the updates they did were big.

DAMN RIGHT! I've never been a part of, and seen as much success and hope for something(especially from Microsoft) as the Zune. They have what they need, it's reliable, they're going down the right path.

Especially now that the alternator is in the works :P

I think it's gonna be incredibly difficult to wrestle away the market from the iPod but they sure are getting a good start. I love my Zune and don't miss my iPod at all, it's so damn sexy too.
