Steve Jobs Bashes Zune

Moments after MacWorld the other day, and in an interview with CNBC's Jim Goldman, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs openly bashed Zune.

Goldman writes:

"I told Jobs that I had sat down with Microsoft's Robbie Bach last week at the Consumer Electronics Show. I mentioned that Bach was particularly optimistic about the new Zune, that it was now a worthy alternative to Apple's iPod.

Asked Jobs:

"Was he inebriated? Do you even know anyone who owns a Zune?"

Touched a nerve, I suppose."

What's Steve's deal? What's Zune ever did to you Steve? I know quite a few people with Zunes as a matter of fact! Could Zune be doing better than Jobs' planned? This is obviously unprofessional of Apple's CEO to bash Robbie Bach as well as our beloved Zune. But this isn't the first time Steve's bashed Microsoft.

You got any thoughts? That statement may have touched Steve's nerve, but I got a knuckle sandwich I'd like to touch Steve with...

It's stealing his fanbase. Let's face it, in the earlier years the iPod was the only thing keeping Apple alive. Now that MS has taken up this market, the only thing Apple seems in control of, Jobs feels threatened. And rightly so.

Good. Without Microsoft, Apple would be dead right now. In a way, Microsoft should be getting a small percentage of Apple's revenue.

I would be funny if MS bought half of Apple's stock. They could pretty much do as they please.

Problem with that is then Microsoft would have a complete Monopoly. Microsoft is already facing Anti-trust law suits due to its presence overseas.

So What? All these Anti-Apple and Anti-Jobs stories make Zb members look like a group of ignorant hypocritical fanboys. I can guarantee if it was the CEO of any other PMP manufacturer saying this, it wouldn't be on the homepage. Everything always seems to be Zune vs. Apple .

Apple's got the biggest PMP on the market. Of course there are going to be clashes. Especially if they initiate one.

The thing is that it's not a big deal that someone bashed the Zune. It's that the CEO of a competing company is bashing the Zune. It's not very professional. It'd get the same response if Bill Gates were to say "LOL YOU USE A MAC?!"

Apple knows they can't be #1 if they have to compete

They're all about high prices and "a perfect vision".
High prices have no place in a competitive market.

Prices are about even.

It's the shoddy quality of this gen's iPod and the features the Zune has that the iPod doesn't that are the kickers.

It was definitely not very classy of the dude to say so, and since he did flat out slam his latest competitor which continues to gain traction, and call its division president a drunk; and since this site is dedicated to that competitor, I think it's more than appropriate. Zune owners have had to endure ridicule from iFans for a very long time, and this seems to be fuel to their flame. So yes, this is pretty news worthy (even Engadget seems to think so) if not to just allow Zune owners to vent. Does it fan the flames of the Zune vs. iPood debate, you betcha, but it wasn't zB which did that. Mr. Jobs did it all by himself in one unprofessional moment.

The guy with the Zune 80 from my Gym class
The guy who was always by my French class last year
The girl with the white Zune
The guy with the black Zune who sat at the table across from me
The guy with the Zune in Walmart

I've seen tons more people, and apparently people at my old school are buying them like crazy.
