Zune Coming to Canada BUT...

A Microsoft Press release has shed some details on the Spring 2008 Canadian Launch. Filled with non-American spellings of words like "colour" and "favourite," the article spells out the good and (yes) the not-so-good of what's to be expected. Here's a hint: America's northern Neighbor will have to wait for something else!

"We are excited to offer Canadians an alternative music experience with Zune," said Craig Tullett, Group Manager, Zune Canada. "With wireless capabilities and a unique social experience, Canadians can continue to discover and share music in new ways."

Good

Yes, Canadians will be able to get their hands on the 3 Zune models (some of which you can already find) and take advantage of the ZuneOriginals customization within the next couple months. Canadians will also be able to experience the ZuneSocial and create their own custom ZuneCards just like their US counterparts. There are a couple things, however, Canadians will have to wait on.

Not So Good

The Canadian offering in 2008 will first include Zune players, Zune software and the Zune Social, an online music community, before launching the Zune Marketplace online store later this year.

The Zune Marketplace and The Zune Pass will not ba available at the initial launch. Most of the article's features mention 'Spring of 2008' until you get down to this:

Zune Marketplace (to be launched later in 2008). Zune Marketplace is designed to make it fun to browse. Choose from over 3 million songs and a broad collection of albums, music videos and digital rights management (DRM)-free MP3s to download and sync to a Zune.

Zune Pass (to be launched with Zune Marketplace later in 2008).For about the price of one CD per month consumers can get flat-rate access to millions of available songs. They also have the option to buy songs, albums and music videos individually.

Bummer. If our Canadian friends haven't waited long enough and now this? Let's hope they don't wait too long, aye?...

Market place will only be cool once you can download movies or tv shows. I think they are lucky if you ask me...Limewire FTW!

Ah well. I don't use Zune Marketplace so if I was in Canada and got a Zune, it wouldn't matter.

I have all the music I want at the moment. So I'm happy.

I only just started using the Marketplace for the podcasts, which are cool, but not completely necessary. you know? does anyone else feel me?

I'm just happy that Zune will come out in Canada. I don't know if I can wait untill the Spring though... I might just go down to the U.S. and buy my Zune there.
Is the marketplace that great? I mean don't most people just use Limewire anyways?

im in canada and i've had my zune since september of last year. a couple stores here are actually selling refurbs for about $150 and offering their own warranty with it.
im excited that zune will be selling here because then i will be able to buy accessories for it without having to order online!

Sorry, I don't even listen to podcasts :P Just music, video, and picture. 90% of it being music with my Zune.

But still, it's a nice feature to have.

Podcasts might be used, but not THAT much. As long as the Zune comes out, I'm fine.

well i also have had my zune for 2 months, complete access to marketplace and so-on.

us canadains just gobble up mp3 players so... if they advertise it enough, it'll do very good in canada....

like i keep saying, not too many people in my city even knows wut a zune is, let alone wut it can do!!!

lol.. nathan always goes off topic.. zune going to canada.. when will they be spread all over the world..? china already made a fake copy of zune.. and all zunes are made in china.. and i don't know why they don't sell it in other places..

I haven't even looked at the marketplace, it costs money and like I've stated before, I like my music/videos/etc FREE
