Zune v2 and New Features

As many of you know, the new Zune debuted this week with much fanfare from the Zune community. On November 13, 2007, the new Zunes and firmware will be ready for the US release and here's what you can expect!

New Zune Models
Zune will now come in four different sizes. 80GB with a larger 3.2 inch screen, 30GB - the one we've all come to know well, 8GB and 4GB flash memory with a 1.8 inch screen.

New Zune Pad
The new Zune models will come complete with a touch-sensitive Zune Pad. It will make scrolling through music easy as a flick of your finger. 30GB models will still retain the original D-pad.

Premium Headphones Standard
The new 80GB Zune models will come standard with Premium headphones making the musical experience with Zune that much better!

New User Interface
The new Zune interface will have a new look and feel taking advantage of larger fonts to make navigating through menus a breeze. Current Zune owners will be able to take advangtage of this cool new feature with a simple firmware update. Microsoft has not forgotten about us!

New Zune Marketplace
Zune Marketplace will get a completely new look. They've shed the old Windows Media Player look and redesigned it into a breath-takingly nice interface.

Podcast Support
Zune will now have podcast support (no that's not an iPod term, it's not affiliated with Apple what so ever - they just do them too). Zune Marketplace will start offering podcasts in November!

Recorded Live TV
Using Windows Media Center on your Vista Home Premium/Ultimate, you will now be able to record live TV and upload it to you Zune. Who needs to pay $1.99 per episode? Zune makes it easy and FREE!

New Video Suport
Zune will now have MPEG-4 and H.264 native support. No need for Zune Marketplace to convert to WMV!

Wireless Sync
Sync up your tunes, pics, vids, and podcasts from anywhere in your home using your wireless network! Syncing has never been this easy! And get a docking station or wall charger, and you'll never have to connect your Zune to your computer AGAIN!

New Zune Social site
Releasing in beta right now, Zune social will be kinda like MySpace where you can create a profile, have friends, IM each other, and much more! Sharing music and playlists has never been this cool!

Microsoft really is doing a lot in this next generation of Zunes. Can't wait to see what's next...

Awesome!

Is that a new Zune Pouch I see? I'm more excited about that than new headphones.

BTW, do they have magnets in them? That's the only thing that would make them worthwhile to me.

Boy, you're easy to please...lol

But yes, the new headphones will be magnetized to prevent tangling (if you look in the pic, they're connected....)

Well, without the new features I wouldn't consider it, but a pouch and magnetized headphones are those nice, underated features that the Zune should be famous for. The pouch works better than any case I have ever head of, and the headphones are just 1337.

Technically any sort of speaker that produces sound waves must make use of a magnet, with the exception of a pizo buzzer, if I remember correctly. Perhaps you mean more powerful magnets with greater ranges?

Have you ever used the Skull Candy Smokin' Buds? I have found they are nearly identical to the Premium Zune earbuds. Many places still have them discounted for $10. My sole complaint is that the larger detachable round tips are the only ones that allow the greatest bass response to enter my ears. Their being too large means they fall out of my ears very easily.

Has anyone else found this to be the same for them?

I was wondering how long it would take to get some Mr. Technical to mention that.

The magnets referred to are the ones on the back of the hadphones that keep them attached together

now, correct me if i'm wrong, but with the new firmware update. we're getting all the features that the zune 80 has (wifi syncing, tv recording, ect.) on our zune 30? because if so, i'll be able to hold off on the zune 80. please send reply back in a pm. i only get on the computer once per week. thanks. btw... i really hope that you can change the font size because i'm not that blind....

YES, all current Zune owners WILL get all of these features with the firmware update except the Zune Pad....that would rock though.....

We will all be able to

wirelessly sync
Record live TV (provided you have Windows Vista Media Center up and running)
You will get to go onto the Zune Social site
and you will ge the new Zune Marketplace

Zune 30 does not get new native codecs or higher res TV output.

Cant wait, just one more month. By the way, when do you guys think new colors for the zune 80 or a zune 160 (if they ever make one), will be available? I know there is no official word whatsoever but I would just like a few educated guesses.
