Latest Zune 2 News!

Looks like some press disregarded Microsoft's request to halt all press releases until midnight tonight and decided to announce info on the new Zunes early (but that's good for us!).

Silicon Alley Insider is announcing on their site details about today's shrouded event unvailing Microsoft's next generation Zunes.

Some details they offer (which isn't much) are:

1. More elegant interface in the new Zunes
2. DRM free music available on Zune Marketplace
3. and....well that's it.

Seattle's KING5 is also reporting more details now...

4. the 80Gb model is slimmer and sports a 3.2 inch screen
5. Wi-fi is expanded to sync music, video, and photos wirelessly directly from the user's computer.
6. The Squircle is officially called the 'Zune pad'

Zunerama is also reporting in:

7. Every Zune including the existing 30gb model will offer wireless sync
8. All Zunes will also be able to play back TV content recored using windows vista media center.
9. Zune Social, an on line community site which will be coming in beta this fall.
10. Zune Marketplace redesigned to make it easier for people to find what they want. MP will now offer more than 3 million tracks, thousands of music videos and free audio and video podcasts.

BetaNews adds:

11. For the first time, Zune Marketplace will rival iTunes in a big way, offering over 3 million tracks in mp3 format.
12. Still no word on movie content...:frowns:

The Hollywood Reporter says:

13. 3x3 rule will be no more
14. Games, TV shows, and Movies are in the works!

Thats a little information, but good things in life come in small doses. Anyway Im glad they didnt call it "squircle"

Same, I almost laughed out loud when I saw "Squircle".

If this news is true, I hope to God that the new Wi-Fi features make it to the current Zunes in an update.

they look ok, but i will have to wait a while before i will be able to get one.

You guys are fast. Wireless sync is sweet, as I'm usually too lazy to connect my zune and have to deal with the software each time.

Strange they're unveiling it at midnight. It's not like a bunch of people are going to pull an all-nighter just to keep tabs on the release.

*waits for someone to say they're going to stay up all night just to keep tabs on the release*

The news article from king5 news featured some new info, all but officially confirming the Zune 2. The article was taken down, but Nurta graciously uploaded it and it has some interesting news. Things like new software, the squircle is now the "Zune pad" and larger screens. Looks like the Zune 2 is shaping up to be a real contender.

3x3 is now 3xforever and you can send songs you receive to other Zunes
The wireless sync requires to be in a dock (not very wireless)
Games are in the working
The Zune Cards that Zuneboards discovered quite a while ago have been revealed, they are images generation at Zune Social representing well, you.
