Not old zunes. I could live without that, but the thing I'm realllly disappointed about is this:

I hope thats not what it sounds like, but this means no native support for new video codecs on old zunes, the thing I was really looking forward to.

I mean its nice we're getting some new features, but it seems like everyday I'm hearing about what the old zune CAN'T do.
I haven't heard this anywhere. Why would they say the old Zune would basically have the same features as the new one. I don't really care about the 640X480 stuff but the new codecs were something to look forward to. If these things you say are true, then basically we'll have the same old zune with a different interface??

Um, I don't think hardware should disable different file extensions.. It shouldn't limit it... I mean, we hacked it to support it. I don't know why they would disable it.

Well a new firmware/software may disable our hack, but the Zune in the newer versions will support more extensions. AAC, WMA Lossless, MP3 VBR will be supported.

Yes, but they were saying the new file extensions wouldn't be supported, and I was saying that that wouldn't make any sense, there's no reason to disable it.

I wouldn't say they're screwing us over. Sure, no native mpg/h.264 or 640x480 support really is a bummer, but at least Zune 30 gets wireless sync and podcasts plus whatever else is new. However, I don't understand why they can't do 640x480 out on Zune 30 though, as I don't believe its a hardware limitation. Not so sure about codecs.

oh and here's the link I got the info:

MacGyver, what world do you live in?

Every year or two Apple comes out with a new iPod that is exactly the same, except for one small feature... They don't only screw over current iPod owners, but the new ones, too. The games you would buy for your old iPod don't work on the new iPods? What's up with that?

Zune is giving you new software, new features, great support, better hardware, and constant feedback. Will you have to buy anything new for these features? Hell no.

From that site it says

On screen resolution is 320x240 - but new Zunes will import 720x480 @30fps or 720x576 @25fps without

Anyways, MS is supporting their users much better than Apple ever has, with the exception of, maybe, one or two new features, the old Zune is getting everything possible with a firmware update.

Apple has never done that to the extent Microsoft is.

I have a friend who is a real iFanboi, he loves his ipod, but he does admit, the ipod has become too pedestrian. He does admit that the zune has an exotic charm, specially for techies. He says he likes the zune, but he'd like to see apple and M$ team up for a device for once.
