Zune 2.0 Release Date

Zunescene is reporting to have the skinny on the launch date of the new Zunes.

October 16, 2007

Along with this news, more details about the device is revealed. The new Zunes will not be glossy like the leaked pics showed, but the image was pretty accurate according to Zunescene's informant. They will have the same double shot finish as the first generation did. And along with the reported red, pink, and black colors, a army-green Zune will also be available.

I really hope they have some excellent feature under their sleeves. If they just release the same zune's but smaller and upgraded hardware, there are going to be a lot of angry zuners.

yeah, that's one thing that seems to be really hush hush with MS, but I think some kind of firmware update should be expected. I doubt the new Zunes will be just beefier/smaller versons of the original... My fingers and toes are crossed

because zunescene news is always right hey remember scorpio oh yeah that REALLY came out last month. NOT. They confirm a fanfic picture as a legitimate picture. yes it also has a legitimately made mspaint drawn zune with 80gb written in the middle. I dont trust this info in the least.

What's further interesting is the directional pad and how the MS contact referred to it as a 'squircle' - I really hope Microsoft doesn't call it that. That's really gay and is like naming your child something like Dick or Bertha - you know people are gonna make fun of it!

GAAAAAAA!!!!! I JUST BLEW $250 ON THIS THING! 3 DAYS LATER THE THING DROPS $50, NOW I HEAR THAT A NEW ONE COMES OUT IN 3 WEEKS! Why? Life, WHY?!?

Assuming the 'confirmation' is genuine, I find myself asking why MS would release such a decidedly boring product in the face of the new Apple lineup? Sure, it's safe to assume the Zune 2 will sport at least the same broken WiFi and podcast support as the v1, but that can't carry it into 2nd gen success. Since MS aren't idiots, I'm sure they've got some surprises in store in terms of z2 functionality. Or at least I hope they do.

I for one intend on replacing my z1 and my wife's iPod Nano with the new z2's when they come out. If the source is to be taken at his/her word, it might be prudent to wait a month or 3 for a higher capacity hdd z2.

So, in preparation for Oct., does anyone want to buy a gently used z1?

yes.... dstickst....new features are expected (or atleast hoped for) for the v2 AND v1 Zunes. A hefty firmware update should do it. I REALLY hope, as you, that some thing big is in the works other than hardware....

After sooo many dissapointments its incredible we still believe in what zunescene says, but I really really really really really hope this time is for real, and MS comes up with an inovative product and improvements for the original one

So now with this "squircle" you have four things that are unique to the Zune. You also have the double-shot, a large screen, and the WiFi sharring. Then the confrimation date of Oct. 16th? Hmm, I just want to know features, clock, WiFi internet, GAMES? You know, the "Xbox-kind" games I heard about a few months back? Yeah, if they put all that into Z2, I'll be sure to buy one for myself. That, and the fact I only have 5 gigs left on my current Zune and the upgraded HDD is now highly needed.
