I know the difference between the Zunepass and downloading a track at a time as far as usage, but what is the difference in music available? I'm still mulling over the idea of getting a Zune and want to get as much info as possible with the whole enchilada, not just the player itself.
Thanks. KilRoy ![]() |

There are some songs that people seem not to be able to download with the Pass that they can with points. I don't use the marketplace, so I'm not much help.
I do know that when signing up, make sure you're not on a child account or under 18. Otherwise, no explicit content.

Your taste in music might weigh in on that question. I've very recently signed up for zunepass and I've literally downloaded about ten-thousand tracks--it would take ages for the value of a zunepass subscription to be eclipsed by the purchase option. I enjoy having complete albums and artist collections, and zunepass is great for that. For example, virtually everything from Bob Dylan, a very prolific artist by any measure, was completely open on zunepass. However, when I chose to download Kanye West's albums, seemingly random tracks are not available (not the big selling singles, in other words). I am finding that this is not unusual--I suppose a contributing artist towards a given track would not sign off on the track being put up for zunepass.
My tastes are mostly popular and modern (alt-rock, classic rock, rap...just imagine a recovering Limp Bizkit fan), but not brand-spankin' new. I'll remember a song I enjoyed from a year or more ago, or I'll simply think of an artist whose collection might be interesting to explore (Elton John for example) and I can usually bet on them being there, and virtually in their entirety. Some artists (or whoever holds the rights to their songs) are holding out--no Led Zeppelin, no Beatles (I think you can purchase the Beatles from iTunes). Practically nothing from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, or Dr. Dre is available. Those were all big bummers for me. My recommendation is to simply jump in and test the waters--fifteen dollars isn't much to risk. |
