Umm ok, well, i did end up getting a zune, and i was looking at the marketplace, only to find that there are no videos availible to download.

So i ask you, why even bother adding a video function to the zune if one cannot even put videos on without having to use a converter????

Just because it's not on the marketplace doesn't mean it's not possible. There are plenty of websites that offer wmv downloads, some even the proper size.

A majority of videos are in avi format. Not even the iPod supports this. Either way, most videos are going to need a conversion and while the software itself can handle wmv's and mp4's, third party applications handle the rest.

I know that technically you can get video onto the zune (i have personally), but why did microsoft even bother to include video on the zune, if they make it so hard to get your own video on it, and don't even have their own service to get video.

Had i known that the marketplace had no video option, i probably would have went with an iPod...

Also, can the zune software rip DVD's (without a converter)?

Again, the same is true for the iPod. The iPod ONLY accepts mp4 videos. In fact, after this new update, the zune will actually support MORE video codecs then then iPod because the Zune is getting mp4 support.

Videos too are coming to the marketplace with the new software.

And no, the zune software cannot rip DVD's as technically, it is illegal (you circumvent the CSS copy protection).

I would like to thank you for your help, and I just hope that the market place gets some TV shows/movies because I don't want to risk getting a virus after downloading it off google video

(actually, is it possible to get a virus that way? How do you even get a virus?)

lol, that's fine

If you're super-cautious, stick to the marketplace but there's virtually NO chance of getting a virus off Google video, youtube, et cetera. Things the general masses use are usually assured to be safe.
