Cool. I won't bother releasing my version (since they addressed my challenge).
I do it differently (not using DNS or CAB files), but give-or-take the number of steps involved, the results should be the same.
NOTE: the same approach can be used to create a potential font collection hack. That's where people should be spending their time.

Please read the english translation by 'lpxxfaintxx' (currently on the home page)
If you have problems, please work to improve the tutorial.
(FWIW: I challenged someone to publish a hack before me and take all the glory - and they did; so it would be uncool to release something else - even though I like my hack better ;-)
Installing the 4 Asian fonts is a very limited 'hack'. If someone comes up with a more useful application (like a font exploit for homebrew) I may reconsider.
Right now the audience is very small (English speakers with Asian font music) and hacker looking for font exploits (who should be able to figure out the DNS stuff)
Do we REALLY need to put in that DNS Server? What about editing the HOSTS File? Meh, either way is pretty much just as easy, since you still have to change it back afterwards. Am I right in guessing that if you want to undo this, you just have to Reformat the Zune again, or does this Hack get stored somewhere else on the Zune? I'm just thinking about how you said that these Font Files come to 40 MB, so if I get a Large enough Library, I may decide that being able to differentiate my Albums and Songs may not be worth the loss of space, however small 40 MB is compared to a total of 27.7 GB... But this Hack should help a LOT of Anime and J Rock / J Pop Fans like me who have a bunch of Import CDs and don't want to try to Translate all the Tracks and Album Names into English. Also, is it possible to Edit the Hack to just install the Japanese Fonts, or are all the Asian Languages spread across those four files together? I've never explored the font files, and I don't know much about them other than that they came together with the Japanese Language Pack that makes some of the Sites I go to not look like crap.

re: DNS improvements.
Try them out and post alternatives. For the small audience, the extra steps shouldn't be that bad.
> Am I right in guessing that if you want to undo this, you just have to Reformat the Zune again,
Correct, a full format, and restore the firmware, and reupload your songs/movies.
HOWEVER, there is no practical (user) need to undo the font hack. You are not losing 40MB of space. The fonts are stored on the system partition (approx 150MB in size) that isn't available for songs/music. http://zunerama.com/forum/index.php?topic=1273.0
Reformatting is a good idea for hackers experimenting with custom fonts or font exploits (in that case you don't need to reload the songs all the time)

You can install 0,1,2,3 or all 4 of the TTC files. The name is all that matters.
You may want to play with them to use a prefered font where more than one font collection supplies the same unicode character (discussed on another thread), but not to save space.
You can browse the TTC files with various font tools, or check here for info of what's inside http://www.microsoft.com/typography/...t.aspx?PID=145
Yeah, I read about the System Partition shortly after I posted that, and I suspected that it might store them there. In that case, I could just install all four of them and not worry about the space. I might check out that link anyway, just to see which ones I really am looking for. Thanks!
0. Disassemble the zune and connect its harddisk to computer. (cause we do not have a hack method to access the system parition yet )
1. make the folder named "Fonts" under the system patition's root directory
2. Put font files (msgothic.ttc gulim.ttc mingliu.ttc simsun.ttc) into the folder.
and these file could be found under the %systemroot%fonts on your windows machine. (If some of file is missing, install the east asian language pack to your windows)
3. assembling zune and turn it on. The zune will be support unicode character.
Yeah, actually I'm korean. For that reason, my english s**ks
does that work on the 2nd generation zunes? btw will the HD patcher work instead of modding your harddrive?

where exactly is the link for the non-hardware unicode hack? i looked through this entire thread and did searches... if anyone could point me to the right link that would be great. Also would the hack work with the 3.0 update?
hey guys, i'm new here...and i'm from israel which means that i speak hebrew...
does this hack supports hebrew?
and do you think that in the near feature there will be a program that will be able to do all the hacking stuff for me? i mean some kind of an .exe file that i will open, while my zune is connected, hack the zune and install the requested language (in my case hebrew) ????
or is it to good to be true?
please don't stop this good work! the language issue is the real deal! more zune owners all around the world!
10x
and all the programmers, keep up the good work...you're doing wonderful thing and helping so many people without even knowing! not everybody always say 10x for everything, just use your hacks, mods or whatever it is you're making...
sorry for the long & exhausting message and for my bad english...it's been a while since i last used it.
