Well, I'm going to attempt a Wi-Fi hack, but I need to know if the Zune has a MAC address that is visible. Since it technically has a NIC, it should have a MAC address printed inside it... so if anyone has opened their Zune, have you seen a number that looks like "00-00-00-00-00-00" (but with different numbers)?
also, that is the one part that is harder to get to without being destructive as it has the io shielding on it securely. as far as taking the zune apart though, it took all of like 2 minutes to strip it down, and take pictures. its easy as hell, and as long as you have ample work surface (see not your lap) then you should have no problem.
No, it is the Irony of a object that connects to another computer having a MAC address. The wi-fi connection works off a completely different principal than a standard wi-fi connection.
Perhaps if it were connecting to the net directly. But why does a Zune need anything but a Name and a Serial number to identify itself to another Zune? Think about it =.
you do realize that there is speculation of the ability to connect to the zune marketplace via any wifi hotspot in a future firmware right? that said, the chip used is a standard 802.11g chipset from what I understood and should in fact have a mac address. now let me see if I can find that pic again...
i would think wifi is in the system for later firmware updates, cuz if they planned to keep the sharing of music from zune to zune they way it is now then they could of also used ad hoc
If MS wants to EVER do any thing other then Zune to zune communication they would need a mac address. I cant imagine they would develop a new proprietary Wireless protocol just for the Zune.
A. They dident have time.
B. It would make the Wifi practically useless.
C. Why would they want to do that?
when i first got my zune, after i opened, like an hour later while i was listening/messing with the zune, my brother came to me and said the zune is showing up on the wireless network
