Default AAC Support/Homepage Story

he above screenshot is of system information taken directly from the Zune device. After seeing this, I thought to myself, "Finally, Microsoft did something smart." Not really. After looking into the Zune program files, I was surprised to find that that the Zune program will not pick up and/or sync any .aac files to the device. Why would Microsoft make it so that ex-iPod owners would not be able to add any of the songs they purchased from iTunes onto their Zunes, especially when the Zune device itself would play the files? I have no clue. I would assume that it has something to do with Apple owning the .aac format, but I'm not sure. Either way, this is a HUGE screw up by Microsoft, and this should be fixed ASAP. Have you actually tested AAC files in the software? I have exactly Seventy 128Kbps Non-DRM'd AAC files which play perfectly fine in my Zune software. They also sync to my zune perfectly fine and play fine as well without any type of converting What-So-Ever..

~EDIT
As Proof of that AAC files work on the Zune and in the Zune software, Here are some screen grabs.

Just curious, but everyone keeps mentioning that you should be able to play files downloaded from iTunes. I don't believe that's correct. Granted, they are .aac files but they're protected aac files, much as the wma's are in the zune marketplace. There exist both DRMed and non-DRMed versions of both aac and wmv. To have the ability to play such protected files, a decrypting algorithm must be present and the Zune Software doesn't for aac. At least that's my understanding. Sorry to be nit-picky, I wanted to clarify before people go out and download songs off itunes instead of Zune (why would they? IDK).

In other news... Armin van Burren is sweet, and thanks to you, I just downloaded the 24 - Longest Day Music Video

Your correct, you Can Not play DRM Protected AAC files from iTunes in the Zune Marketplace. The only place you can play protected AAC files from iTunes is in iTunes. Though iTunes will soon be selling a lot of songs with No DRM really soon and they will be compatible with the Zune.

Of course, you can use tunebite with your protected AAC files and convert them to unprotected AAC.

You can use many programs to do that. But its not the obvious answer to most people.
