I have found someone selling a breakout board for the zune's docking connector, and that caused me to wonder if the HDMI output on the Zune HD is something done with assistance of the dock, or if usable HDMI is outputted directly from the docking connector. If it is, unless the zune will only output it while it is docked, I can see it being rather easy to make an HDMI output cable that simply attaches to the docking port. Has anyone figured out the HD's dock pinout, or any other information that may assist me or anybody else in doing this?
imo the only reason it has a dock is so that you can enjoy the 'experience" watching movies, playing music..etc using the remote ..imagine if your comfortable and dont want to get up? or want to switch songs
also the dock charges the zune while playing back content
well, that doesn't answer my question. Does anybody know if the ZHD will output HDMI if there is no dock connected, and does anybody have the pinout for the docking connector.
??? None of you are reading my post! I am not asking what to do, or how to do something! I am looking for a pinout of the zHD dock with the HDMI pins labled, and asking if anybody knows if the hd requires the dock to enable HDMI output! I do not have, and don't plan on having a dock anytime soon. If you don't know the answer to my question, there is no need to post.

Unfortunately, you're probably not going to find that info here, as anything resembling "hacking" or "modding" in this forum reached its demise long ago.
As to your original question, it's likely that the HDMI signal is part of the dock connector, but you can't assume that's the case. Also, other Zune accessories such as the FM transmitter use some sort of verification scheme called the "Xbox Security Method", so if the dock contains any active components you might run into that as well. However, I have no idea how you'd be able to find out for sure or obtain a pinout without tearing apart a (rather pricey) dock or something.
The reading comprehension of people around here is pathetic. The OP wants to make a homebrew dock => HDMI cable (in effect, making his own dock). I don't have any idea whether that would be practical and I can all but guarantee that you don't either - so think before you post instead of assuming that anything not sanctioned by MS is impossible.

exactly im surprised noone gathered what his first post was saying. even if it is possable, which i wouldnt doubt, you cant use hdmi out without a remote because if you touch the zunes screen it disables tv out, so youd have to be able to leave the ir port on the cord(i assume your trying to make a cord) so that way its all in one and not a seperate hdmi and dock, i feel tho it would defeaat the purpose of what your trying to do because you will still need the ir port(idk if its called port but you know what i mean) encased in the cord
