All i'm gonna say is, never say never. Because as everyone should know, when it comes to technology (PC's, Macs, iPod's, Zune's(yes even the first zunes), cell phones, etc etc), virtually ANYTHING is possible.

And i would not rule out anything. Yes, iPhone apps are written in a different language, but that means nothing. I don't know how, but i can guarantee you that some crazy scripter(not necessarily a hacker), could take the Zune HD, and make a Java handler. That is a promise. Now, will it happen? that remains to be said. but i'm saying, it's not only possible, it's VERY possible. and even that doesn't happen, i can (almost) promise you that someone will do something similar to a jailbreak.

Don't just make someone sound completely stupid for saying that, cause maybe you're the one who's being stupid. Look at the iPhone and what it can do when it's jailbroken. Who knew? When apple came out with the iPod touch/iPhone, i promise that nobody in their wildest dreams imagined that it would be broken. But look, you can almost do anything on it.

I'll say it again. When it comes to technology, never say never.

The level of protection on the iPod is nothing compared to what it is on the Zune. Also, there obviously aren't any experience hackers working with the Zune. It's obviously not impossible, you are very correct. If someone took the time to figure it out, I'm sure it would get done, but it's hardly comparable to hacking the iPod. And what I said in my post previous to this one didn't exactly have anything to do with custom firmware... but making iPod Touch apps available on the Zune. It's really not probable to reverse engineer them and then convert them to xna/c# and make them work. It would take forever and the person would probably save more time and get a better product by just doing it themselves... and then it's not an iPod app. Even with custom firmware, the hackers would have to essentially program an iPod emulator.

Yes. I know that. But people were saying it wasn't possible, but it is. Unrealistic? Yes. But defiantly not impossible.

Trust me, i hate apple with a burning passion. The last thing i want to see happen is someone making it possible to get iPod apps onto Zune. Why? because that just gives Apple fan boys another reason to brag about how ammaaazzzing the iPod touch/iPhone is compared to the Zune HD because you can use Apple apps on..NOT ONLY Apple products, but Microsoft too!!! I want to see Zune come out with Zune stuff. Not Apple stuff. Not Sony stuff. Not Samsung stuff. ZUNE stuff.

If all Zune has is what everyone else has, then that removes all individuality and uniqueness. Zune is different. Copying Apple even more then they already have would just be pointless. Completely and utterly pointless.

So back to the main topic. I wasn't saying anyone SHOULD make an "iPod emulator", i was simply saying it's possible. Honestly, if that happened, it would be a huge disappointment to me, and i'm sure a lot of other people would agree with me.

language doesnt matter, its the binaries, Zune apps are using the .net runtime which runs on top of the windows api and iPhone/touch apps run on basically the OSX(BSD) api.
also, if you want to jailbreak the ZHD, find existing ones in other versions of WinCE or preexisting phones then exploit them. thats how it was done (at least for the most part) on the iPhone/touch
