Right above the battery are what appear to be 2 red LED's ... I crossed a connection on the board and it lit them up and then smoked em. What are they for since you can not see them outside the casing??

I work for a 3rd party internet referb. center and I have only noticed these lights on the flash Zunes (4 & 8GB) the 2 lights shown in the picture lit up for only a second then burned out.
This is very confusing seeing as how you can not see those lights from outside the unit.... and there is not any literature on the interwebs about it.... someone... please help uncover this mystery...
woah, nice picture....looks way different from the inside of an 80!
um, im not to sure wat the lights r for, but the only thing that makes a little bit of sense to me is that.... well idk. when you look at them real closely do they actually look like leds, like inside of the light.
the only thing i can think of is that it is like that of a remote control (hold a button in and the red light is only going to blink for a sec whether u hold it in or not) but i have no clue why the flash zunes would have that in it.
im not really sure
if u find out what they r, please post in this thread, i would like to know
With another Flash Zune, take the case off, and try all of the normal commands (play, skip, volume, charge, etc.) and see if anything prompts the lights to, well, light.
They look like they could be to do with either wireless or battery. do they light when you charge it? (assuming you havent smoked them out) or when you send something wirelessly?
Okay, first thing. whip out your cell phone camera, and go into the take a picture mode. Next, make attempts to turn the wifi on on the device, and play around with the functions while you have the camera on your phone facing the leds. They may be emitting a light that you can not see because it is infarred (Why they would be emitting that I don't know, it could be for remotes and such as someone mentioned earlier.) however, because cell phone cameras generally blow and do not have a flash thingy (I forget the name but it has something to do with getting rid of that light frequency) you will be able to see it. (try it with a remote for lulz)
Other then that the only thing that I could see that being used for is for is for testing to see if the unit was short circuited, which is also a possability.
Other then that though, happy hunting, I hope the reason for them existing gets resolved. Please pm me if I was right.

Look at this sig, its new, and I used the clone tool, and the worst part is, you don't even care.
My guess it that it is some how used in checking the boards for defects on the assembly line. A machine touches those contacts and if it flashes then the board has passed some test. Probably one of many. It might not be meant for when the board actually has a battery and has enough power running through it to start up. The power for that test might be supplied by the my the machine testing it, just to see if some circuit is good or not.
i think i know what the lights are, because the zune 4,8,16 GB are flash memory, just like flashdrives, they blink on and off when information is being put onto or off the zune
