i downloaded the original setup cd and it contained this folder named FIRMWARE
and inside there are 2 files
one xml file named pyxis. which doesnt seem to be anything else than the "About Zune" thing. and then there is an archive. labelled Zune01010322
i think that can be deciphered to a version 1.01 firmware build 0322 but im not sure about that.
a few things, is it possible to simply swap out those two files and then install to get a different firmware version? if so, where can i get them. im having one heckuva time trying to get this zune 30 to version 2.5 so i can use zsuite. my friend accidentaly updated it to 3.1 and i am trying to get it back. any help would be appreciated. i have the 2.5 software if anyone is interested.
great. i would really like to be able to use this with winamp using zsuite. but i guess i can no longer do that
Well if you find a way to reinstall the older 1.x firmware from 3.1, let me know. I've been trying myself to get it downgraded, but with 3.1 it just isn't working.

you could try doing a complete reset of you zune (back+left+center?) and have the old software installed, then when it reinstalls the FW, it should be the old fw, I wouldn't reccomend it though
unfortunately a device restore gets updated to the latest firmware, im sure someone could devise a hack to make it "think" its checking from a local area rather than the zunes servers, and simply swap the firmware files, tho im sure the software checks the firmware to at least ensure its 3.0 or higher as the software is always realeased at the same times
there was a hack for the older firmware that allowed downgrading. You can do the same thing now if you know a few basics and switch out the firmware files
I know this isn't being persude anymore, but I've been trying to downgrade back to 1.3 (from 3.1). I have eliminated any presence of 3.1 (by redoing my windows) but still cannot get the zune to accept firmware. Since the old hack no longer works, I tried redirecting my router so go.microsoft.com would ping 127.0.0.1. Unfortunately that still wouldn't work, the java httpserver program/hack just sits there.
The only thing left to try is to get another computer, set it up on the network, route go.microsoft.com to ping to that computer, and have the java program sitting there waiting with the firmware. Since I don't have another computer to do this, I'll have to wait til my nephew stops by and lends me his laptop to see if this would work.
I definitely would like to find a way to get the 1.3 firmware back onto the zune (it's been waiting for firmware) if there is another way.
Oh well if all else fails, I can always sell it and get something not so limited.

Come on Microsoft you must read these posts and see that many people would like the option to revert back or a choice to revert back.
I think That Microsoft don't give a crap for us who still have 30 GB Zunes.
I guess they expect us to go buy new Zunes but I was upset when 3.0 firmware came out and my Zune was all messed up and still is with 3.1 firmware.
Thats why I bought 2 apple Ipods for my kids.
Don't get me wrong I love my Zunes but I'm not happy with Microsoft's firmware upgrades
and didn't want my kids complaining to my to fix there Zunes anymore.
Well I hope someone could figure out a way to revert back.

You're mad at MS for offering upgrades? Apple never has this problem because they never offer upgrades for their products. You want new features? buy a new iPod. Want new features for your Zune, upgrade.

Well I can't downgrade unfortunately from 3.1. The firmware I don't mind on the Zune, it's the software I can't stand. I prefer the 1.3 software anytime. Ran that for a year and enjoyed it. I do like 3.1 (tried to enjoy it) on the Zune, but alas the software just didn't work out for me.

I just did it and damn, back to 1.3 software! FOLLOW the instructions precisely! You have to use 3.1 drivers (make sure you grab those if you don't have them). No more 3.1 software... now gotta set up my zune back the way it was! YES!
