Did anyone else first think about Wipeout Pro for the PSP when hearing that the next firmware update will allow the Zune to browse the marketplace? I assume MS is going to be lazy and go and just make that a basic web browser, if so we can very easily use the DNS trick to redirect that to google and from there to anywhere.

Or am I just crazy?

Has that been officially announced, or just a rumor?

If that is the case, are you that sure that Microsoft will be lazy like that? They went through the trouble of making the firmware "hack-proof".

Also, what is this 'DNS trick' of which you speak?

EDIT: I just saw the thread about it. Yay!

Well, the current Marketplace uses XML-based data files not related to HTML. It's unlikely that MS would build a Web browser for this reason. The Zune also already has an advanced UI framework on-board that is almost certainly being used to display the Marketplace storefront.

What might be possible is, once the update is out,
connect the zune to your home network and try to browse the marketplace while monitoring what sites get accessed on your network.
After that find out how/what the zune reads to get the the marketplace listings.
Then just forward anything that tries to access that site to somewhere else.

It might not be able to go to websites but if you can recreate the file it reads for the marketplace, you might be able to create a simple rss reader

That is a good idea... I wish I knew how to hack.
