Default Charge Zune Anywhere

There is a simple way to charge your Zune anywhere.
Here is what you need:

1. Zune AC Adapter
2. Two video/audio input jacks (that have the colored input parts on both sides).
3. At least two AAA batteries
4. Electrical tape (just to be safe if you mess up)
5. Plyers

Here is how you do it.

1. Using plyers, pull out the main circle part in the middle to one end of both of the wires (the part you put into the tv).
2. Put the AAA batteries in the ends where you pulled out the main circle part (- +)(- +).
3. After they are secure, wrap electrical tape around the batteries and where they are on.
4. Disconnect the ac adapter from the Zune.
5. Plug the circle things on the other side into the holes on the metal part of the ac adapter (where you would plug it into the wall).
6. Connect the ac adapter back into the Zune.
7. It should be charging. You should probably bring a bunch of AAA batteries with you because the charge might not last that long.

Rerun!

I saw this on youtube, on that one show (I can't remember the name right now) the guy used it to power a TV.

Reasons this won't work
1) If you pull the pins out, then the battery doesn't contact anything, so no circuit
2) The transformer inside the charger won't let a current that small through.
3) The transformer works by creating an electromagnetic field with the AC current, which is picked up by another winding on the transformer. This does not work with DC.
4) Even none of the above were true, the current output would be way too low to charge the Zune.

1) The batteries contact the wires, the outside metal parts, and eachother.
2) Why and what wouldn't allow the current to go through?
3) One of my friends tried it before and it worked.
4) That's why you pack a lot of batteries.

1) The metal pin is embedded about a centemeter into the plastic of the RCA plug, then the wire is soldered to it. If you pull out the pin, theres nothing left inside but... plastic. And for the batteries contacting the shield, that again is wrong, all batteries have plastic around them, and even if you took the plastic off, the entire casing of the battery is the negative terminal.
2) The transformer. It takes the high AC current (~120V) and lowers it to (I'm guessing) 9vAC. Transformers don't work with DC, at least not at the levels we're talking. BUT, it might work if the Zune charger is just a resistive transformer (uses resistors to lower the voltage, instead of a transformer) But again, you'd need more power than just a AAA battery
3) I seriously doubt that. If you could give us some pics of it being used, maybe.
4) That, or, get a $10 DC>AC converter, and charge it that way.

9-volt battery plug + LM7805 voltage regulator + female usb plug + a little bit of soldering and tape = portable zune charger that runs off of 9v batteries

it lowers it to 5v not 9v

Yes, in the end you get 5V DC. My guess is that it uses a small switching buck transformer to take ~9vAC and takes it down to 5vDC.
At least, that's how I would do it.

you guys are doing it wrong. Well what do i know?

I suggest you make a version that can charge it with a crank or a solar panel.

Most, if not all AC adapters use a simple arrangement of a transformer, bridge rectifier and regulator. While DC will travel through a bridge rectifier and regulator without problems (except, possibly, voltage loss through the diode bridge), DC cannot and will not go through a transformer due to the very nature of AC versus DC.

I know this has already been addressed in other ways, but the transformer would not only bring the voltage down, but transform it it DC rather than keeping it AC. I would hate to plug 9V AC or ever 5V AC into my Zune.
