I know you guys are already working on that .txt viewer, but I need your opinions. Try this:
1. Connect your Zune. 2. Open up the Zune program so it says "Connected" on your Zune. 3. Now, don't sync. Instead, go to Start>Search>For Files or Folders and search for something - anything on your Zune. What just happened? Well, you should have noticed that while the Zune was being searched, it was "Syncronizing". My challenge to you is to explain to me why this is. Is the actual syncing file not as important as the file that tells it it is connected? Any feedback will be appreciated. |

Holy hell. At first I just thought you were crazy, but then I realized my system registry had reverted back to the no-Zune-in-shell mode. Because it's been doing this lots, I've got the original registry and the modified registry on my desktop. So I redid the modified registry...and..even though Zune (Software) isn't syncing any files...my Zune itself is synchronizing.
![]() What does this mean? Hell...it's a lot easier to tell Windows to do a search for a file than to try and actually make the Zune Software sync the whole time we're doing something. Because I just tested it, and even though the Zune Software isn't syncing, the Zune itself is in fact syncing...giving us read/write access. So all we have to do is send Windows through some random search through our Zune and we can use it as an external HDD! Besides...making Windows iterate through all the files takes a good while anyway. Good find!!!! ;D |

Excellent find. I made an attempt to transfer files either way in linux via libmtp while it was searching, but sadly still no joy on that front.

so does the HDHack work with this Search, if so, i could make a pretty ugly program that converts What you type into a text box, into an image to be synced to your Zune....can you say "Cheat Sheets" for school...lol....just a thought....Patented on Feb28 by myself

It appears all that reveals is what causes the Zune to display the synchronizing screen: any short, continuous communication with the Zune. When you search the Zune, you are continuously accessing the Zune for a elongated period. I noticed that when I was just opening up the Zune in explorer, my Zune did that screen (since for whatever reason, my Zune loaded slowly). Oh, and no it does not allow you to place files on the Zune, since it is just an error that displays the screen and nothing sent the "free communication" command to the Zune.
