I love my Zune. I really do. But, ever since I've had it, my bloated technical ego has taken a few major blows. Honestly. I used to hack my iPod apart, and do whatever I wanted with it. It just seems that every time I think I have a genius idea for my Zune, 15 minutes later I've got tech support on the phone in my right hand and a lifeless Zune in my left.
Anyway, what I want seems simple enough. I have a windshield mount in my car for my Zune. This mount swivels 360 degrees, so I can change the orientation of my Zune for music and movies. Having a cable going into the bottom for power and a second cable coming out of the top for audio makes the entire setup very awkward and inconvenient. I have seen people use the home docks in their cars for integrated power and audio support from the single port on the bottom, however this is not an option for me if I want to use the windshield mount.
So, I would greatly appreciate if anyone could come up with some sort of setup I could implement in my car to get integrated power and audio from a single cable (Sync cable). Anyone...?

take the round zune dock, sync cable, and audio cable (RCA or male/male 1/4/jack) then you get a soldering iron melt a hole in your cupholder fit the cables through the hole and place the dock in it. For the sync cable purchase a Usb charge. hook the audio cable in the back of your radio. if not possible with the rca audio jack use a male/male 1/4 jack.
you could get a sync cable, open the zune end, and connect the audio and video terminals to a 1/8 4 section connector. you just need to make sure you have the wires on the right terminals and if you don't need audio, your problem just got a lot easier
Soundgate has an exclusive contract with Microsoft for Zune car audio integration, and Logjam is the exclusive seller of Soundgates Zune integration pack.
Depending on what car you have, they are releasing dedicated integration kits later this month that will include things like steering wheel control. I have a 4runner and can't wait to have a single connector to my Zune30 and be able to control it with my steering wheel!! The 4runner kit is here:
Has any end user bought the soundgate core unit for zune yet? If so what is your opinion of it? I ordered mine and I am waiting for its arrival.

I received my soundgate zune pak today and installed it. It works pretty good.Of course I have to control it thru the zune itself but I can live with that for now.

Have had mine for over a month now. Was pretty happy with it, until the connector broke. And since the Zune sync cable is perma-attached to the processor unit, no easy way to replace it. Might end up having to buy another core unit :/
you can get the dual connector zune remote thing it plugs int the bottom and goes to a remote with two head phone jacks, also it has a remote that you can have in yo lap or by yo hand,
Run the wires through your A-Pillar... that's what I would do... if needed, grab a USB extension cable and an extension for your audio cable (1/8" jack) and it'll keep the wires free of your head view!
