Hi,
I was wondering of the Zune file system can be managed on linux. I have been partly successful. I installed mtpfs and mounted my zune as follows: # sudo mtpfs /media/mtp -o allow_other This works as far as mounting. I can view the files and directories. For some reason, I cannot read and write. I read on another board that Zune uses a modifed version of the MTP file system called MTPZ and that there might not be support for that. In that case, it would need a hack. Does anyone know more about this? Thank you for responding ... Cheers! |

This is similar to how Macs can see zune files using XNJB yet can't read or write.
The zune is locked up for other OSs

Just a thought, is it possible to upload files through an xbox 360. Maybe by these steps;
upload files to a portable harddrive then from there upload it to the zune using a 360? I know you can save game files and such to your zune. maybe it's possible to emulate a 360 on linux just for the purpose of zune syncing Just a thought. |

The Zune software does a proprietary handshake upon connect that no one's figured out yet. This handshake is necessary in order to get to the 'connected' screen, itself necessary to get read/write access to the Zune.
A few people have reported success with Amarok, but it seems to be intermittent even for the people who get it to work. I'm guessing that the Zune was probably already "unlocked" (at the 'connected' screen) when it worked with Amarok. If anyone figures out how to do the handshake, it would become possible to use the Zune with non-Windows OSes as well as non-Zune media players on Windows.
