Default Unprotecting Zune Files

I'm trying to edit the ZuneLoc.dll to open up the full potential of the Zune program (it has a color selector and everything... just like WMP11). Everytime I try to update the .dll file, unfortunately, the thing says it can't write over it; and when I try to delete ZuneLoc.dll, it says it's being used or is write-protected. I'm getting very angry because I don't think it's either of those things >

Does anyone know a way to remove the "write protection" or a way around it? ???

I wouldnt be messing with those files, Their digitaly signed and the zune program checks them to be a certain size. Editing them will make them a different size and zune wont accpet them anymore and your program will fail.

I agree with that one

Although I would loe to hack this stuff and have the time to do it, I have no idea what the **** I'm doing... yet

What I'm trying to do is edit the menus in the Zune software so that you can get the thing to display a color chooser and equalizer. The file I'm messing with is the ZuneLoc.dll file, specifically in the "menus" portion of it.

Unfortunately, I think the Zune program does check for tampering, because I've done some changes to it and they won't display in the Zune program

P.S. - Do you have a ZuneLoc_original.dll file on your computer? That might be what it is checking it with.

no i dont have the file original....:-\...hmm...im wondering, if we can use the SendPacket's feature i've seen in VB, to send the packets collected from the USB monitors. That may help with the sync signal, then also help with unprotecting zune files...since u get full access only during syncs...

What is VB? Is it some kind of program that can write USB information from logs? If it is, I'll download it and have a look.

The way I figure, we only need to send a maximum of 3 packets if we do do this, the "Device Recognition" packet, the "Start Sync" packet, and the "End Sync" packet. I just wish I could write programs or I would be all over this right now

If we figure out how to make an artificial sync, Zune Linux shouldn't be that far out of grasp

That DLL was interesting to toy around with. Thanks for giving me the idea to play with it.

Im not sure if you guys solved your problem yet but make sure the zune software is closed and not on the task manager list. Then put the edited zuneloc.dll into its place and start up the software.
