The problem is getting the device to recognize hacked firmware, and also we'd have to know how to program the firmware to actually work.

Pretty much it checks if its legit firmware, editing the firmware is very complicated supposedly my friend said he did it but i do not believe him. I wish it was as easy as the psp.

we just need to find a way to "resign" the firmware...and all that means is changing the crc or what ever the zune checks the firmware for. i did it on my mrobe 500i so we could run linux and change the skin

Unless you work for microsoft, it's pretty much impossible to try to resign the firmware using their encryption algorithm. Like not possible in other words.

2^80 = 1208925819614629174706176
839,000,000,000,000 calculations per second (by the fastest supercomputer in the world by NEC) http://www.smh.com.au/news/technolog...941294254.html

1208925819614629174706176/839,000,000,000,000 = 1440912777 seconds

1440912777 seconds = 16,677 days or 45.7 years

SX-9 rents for $US26,000 a month

556 months x $26,000 = $14,453,400

Unless you have 46 years of your life and over 14 million dollars just burning a hole in your pocket, call me when reality checks in.

Everytime the zune powers up it checks for the signature, the signature check is built into the hardware not the software.

That made me laugh, although there is always the chance of getting lucky and cracking it before going through all of the calculations.
