Resource Hacking

I decided to use this program called resource hacker that lets you open .dlls and .exes to find and edit things. I found some possibly new features that might be enabled in future updates or we may be able to enable them. Some things i found were
Minimode (Like in the 1 for WMP i guess)
Video Acceleration (Im not sure if this is new or if its already there)
New Plug In Feature?
Pixel Aspect Ratio
Podcasts From Zune Software or just subscribing to them.
Sync Lyrics to zune?
A purple and yellow zune icon (Might be new future zune colors)

It means there might be hidden features in the zune software, and you can edit existing things.

Yeah, I found that out about 2 weeks ago. I never shared because I thought no one would be interested. I found that the Zune software contains Javascript files. (Look in the ZuneLoc.dll file). I edited it to TRY and make it update to a fake file but it detected that the firmware was up to date no matter what resource I ripped out or put in I could not bypass this. So I'm here to help you if you need some.

I used a program named "Resource Hacker" you can find it here http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ this is the same program I used to hack U3 Drive images on Hak5.org.

First download resource Hacker.http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

Next start up Resource hacker and open Zune.exe (zune software)

After that go to open again and open zuneloc.dll

Then go to the Dialog

You will see a bunch of numbers!

2043 contains plugin menu
2047 contains pixel aspect
9826 contains podcast subscription menu
21045 contains lyrics sync menu

There might be more stuff that i missed. Hopefully others can use it more than i can.

BTW, this isn't really hacking...

Seems like a debugger gone wrong. This isn't very useful because I've already posted about this stuff in the hacks and mods programming forum.

resource hacker is more useful for some visual modifications of programs, like with AIM ive used it to take out ads, move buttons around, change menus, etc.

Yea I would think you would probably need to use a program like WinHex to actually hack things in the program.

^ Agreed. You need to do more than just edit the gui to get results.
