I was just checkin something out and I found a blog that stated Toshiba(who I believe actually produced the Zune) just completed development of a 1.8" HD that stores 100gb! Check out the specs at http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Pat...00659c00002fdb This would kick ass if it ends up being something we can fit in the zune. As of right now, I just found an 80gb HD available at http://www.ipodmods.com/shop/microsoft-zune-parts.html
I am not sure if this requires any modifications of the case. It probably does, but one can dream.
You can put the 80GB in but I think it has more platters than the 60GB and is consequently too large for the case to shut. I imagine the same goes for the 100GB. I dont get how the iPod can fit the 80GB in there but the Zune can't. I think they need to redesign the internals - it is not as well packed as the iPod I guess.

Because the 60/80GB iPod Video models are physically larger than their 30gb counterparts. I will take the hit in storage in order to keep the small size of the Zune.
I definitely think they should offer a high-capacity model, and it is a given that they will but personally I'm content with the current models storage/size/mobility. Besides, the 40GB HDD fits inside the Zune casing, I imagine larger capacity HDD will be available out of Toshiba or another manufacturer that we will be able to take advantage of in the future.
it looks like it is the same setup as the 60/80 GB units 8mm thick. it has 2 plates like the 60/80GB units too. i wonder if the mod for the back cover on the 60/80GB drive will work with the new 100GB unit?
You can get the 80gig HD in a Zune if you do not use the existing HD jacket the the current 30gig drive sits in. Not using the jacket with the larger capacity drive allows the back cover to close properly.

Hiya,
Does not using the HDD jacket/caddy thing have any negative effects? pressure on the drive or anything?

I *believe* but don't know for sure, that the caddy is there so that the 30gb HD fits snugly into the case. The 68/80/100 drive being slightly thicker fit snugly into the case without the caddy (only way they will fit and allow the back cover back on).[br]Posted on: December 20, 2006, 01:32:35 PM_________________________________________________

Jay K,
The HD is just used for storage. The "OS" is stored in a flash bios (dedicated re-writable physical memory) that is upgradeable through the firmware updates.

So if someone upgrades the drive say to....80gb will the Settings>About>Storage show the proper amount or will it see the drive as the original 30gb that came factory.
