I wouldn't care about the menu system much as long as I can do the basics of a menu.
Gameplay is #1. I don't really care about graphics. Not saying they don't matter, but looking at something pretty and having it play like **** is worse than playing a not so looking game, but in exchange, has great gameplay. I mean, isn't that what you're doing the whole time? Game play?
There are some games that are simply timeless classics, regardless of the graphics quality, or menu system, if it even has the latter.
For me, it all comes down to the gameplay. It needs to be something that's never quite repetitive. You get a sense of familiarity to it, but you never bore of it.

He's got it.
To me, it's all about competing with yourself.
Think about the Helicopter game. Same thing over and over and over again. But you never get bored because you are competition against yourself to beat your old record.
Another aspect is just strategy. Like a tower defense game.
Every time, you try a new strategy to develop the best strategy.

That is why games that have amazing graphics and amazing gameplay are considered so good. For any modern mainstream video game, really good graphics is pretty much a necessity for it to sell very well. However, since just about every high-budget video game has really good graphics, the thing that can mostly set them apart from each other is how good the gameplay is.
It like seeing great graphics, and if the gameplay is likewise great, I will probably enjoy the game a lot. However, I find that I more often play older games that do not have great graphics compared to modern games, but have much better gameplay. Some examples are: Final Fantasy 7, Duke Nukem 3D, Carmageddon TDR 2000, Worms Armageddon, Age of Empires II, Starcraft, and Alpha Centauri. I believe all of those are outstanding games that have been great assets for the video game industry. Their gameplay keeps them fun even many years later.

Graphics depend on what type of game it is. If it's supposed to be a new idea with new graphics, you need good graphics. But if it's an 8-bit remake, DO NOT MAKE it with good graphics.
We don't need no education!
We don't need no thought control,
No dark sarcasm in the classroom!
Teachers leave them kids alone,
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

It's not just graphics. It's mostly the style of graphics and how well they match the rest of the presentation.
Yeah, I agree. I did not mean that the graphics on their own is all that matters for the visual part of games. Although a game can be great based solely on gameplay and minimal graphics, if a game can have great gameplay as well as great graphics/presentation, it makes it even better.

I think a good game should be a collection of fun activities that complement eachother and make the game a non repetitive thing. The rest doesn't really matter, it just compliments it.
Gameplay is most important. For example: Left 4 Dead doesnt have great graphics (compared to other modern games), but it is endlessly entertaining! But to be honest, if the graphics suck, and its not an old game, then I wont enjoy it near as much
