If you mean the community games: Take a look at the development discussion thread. There are many announced games which are in progress... Personally I am working hard on Valgards Fate and I hope to get a preview version out soon.
And if everything works well there will be a 3.0 compatible version of Gold Chase today. Its already done and just needs to be tested by someone else than me.
I'd prefer free games, who wouldn't? BUT... I have a friend with an Ipod, and they have such a wide variety of games.... hell they have Spore on their Ipod, it's not that much to buy the games either, and some are free. Most of the free ones are just as good as any game i've gotten from this site. So unless someone can find me a site that offers better free games i think that we should do this. It's far better in variety and numbers.
I can see other solutions working, perhaps hosting the game on a particular website only without a direct link and having advertisements on that website so the creator gets paid for them, or a donation button, etc. But charging for the games themselves kind of contradicts the whole "Zune" legacy of things being free of charge and would probably piss a lot of people off hardcore if they had to start paying for them.
i would pay for a good game but for the most part the games are good that we get for free

I like the concept of ad banners etc on a page before downloading it, giving the programmer / developers some revenues.. but typically the zune games should / will be free.

That could work, but I do not know how much revenue such advertisements actually produce.

It should probably be like the computer software industry. But thing is, a lot of times donations just wont cut it. If some games costed money, they could hire professionals for the pictures, audio etc.

I am sure some zune game developers use Google's Adsense software to generate some revenue. AdSense - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and to put it short: Web developers get $ if you get something from their ads.

Except that the vast majority of commercial software isn't worth the price.
BTW please avoid posting in old threads unless it's especially relevant - this thread really didn't need to be brought back from the grave
All I wish is that microsoft would make a more convenient way for people to put community games on their zune. You know like through the desktop software. Instead of making you download c# and game studio.
^Right now games are kind of a dev's toy. I'm guessing there are plans to integrate games into the zune software, as well as making a system similar to XBox live community games.
Anyways, I was thinking about the restriction about making commercial games for zunes, and I think this would actually be legit.
Rather than paying for the game itself, you pay for a code to 'unlock features', namely the game. So the game itself is free, anybody can download and install it on their zune without paying anything, but they can't do a whole lot but look at the start-up screen without the code.
The eula says this about zune games:

Use of any programs developed for the Zune platform using the software is restricted to your personal, non-commercial use.

I'm pretty sure such a scheme is still considered "commercial use". It would also be ridiculously easy to reverse engineer.
Well, the argument would basically be "I'm not making money off this game, I'm making money off of the code" Because I'm not "using the software" (the other part of the eula) for commercial use. It's a pretty gray area, I'll have to ask one of my law buddies.
You're right though, it would be incredibly easy to reverse engineer.
Eventually Microsoft will add zune games to the marketplace, and they won't be free. But people will still be able to make free games like the community is right now. So everyone is happy
I love the free games, but I have to say, ever since Steam gave me a free version of Peggle and I became addicted, I would pay almost any price to have that game on my zune. Any other game, definitely not.

lol. I was just shopping around for an MP3 player, and saw someone posted on their blog "Top 5 Zune Games." Without really reading the blog, I saw Peggle as his #1. Assuming that Peggle was for sale for the Zune on Marketplace or something, I bought a new Zune withing the hour, got home, and was dismayed to learn that Peggle WAS NOT for sale (nor any other games for that matter). Oh well, I'm having fun with the free games right now.
