I have thrown this idea around and stuff and I am wondering would it be used? I am posting this here because I know this is the main place to get Zune games from right now. So basically it would be a site with a database of games added by the creator of the game. It would also allow them to directly link to files if they choose. A Forum and user created FAQ would be there to. What do all of you think about this idea? Please vote what you think on the poll above, and explain your reasoning below in the form of a post.

Splitting communities will always fail. I do think the curent way of hosting games could be optimized. Maybe categories, or version stamps. I made DownloadManager - search it, and it didn't take of. But hat is still an option

While I think a site like this should exist, it should not be affiliated with ZuneBoards. It needs to be a completely third party site that collects games, with permission of course, from all over the internet. They could have instructions to installing prerequisites, the games themselves, and so on, have a Wiki(just because they can : p) and have their own support board. In other words, this kind of site has a place, and could be very useful, but not as a part of zB. However, would people use it? Maybe, it depends on how many z00bs would go there for their gaming needs instead of here.

I was meaning as a completely separate 3rd party site. The biggest feature I could see the community using is direct file linking. This would allow for much quicker downloads even if it is just linked to on the forums because there would be no wait times for downloads to start.
As for the database it would include separate categories for each type of game. Then each game would have is own place in that database. The database would be easy for each developer to add their updates to manually.
The site would include a support forum and possibly a wiki type thing that could be edited by everyone.
a) People hate autoupdaters in general. Almost every program comes with some kind of autoupdater now, and they quickly become a hassle to deal with.
b) The program needs a bit more polish to be fully usable. Currently it isn't exactly obvious how to use it, and it isn't always clear whether a download is or isn't taking place.
c) The updater doesn't actually deploy anything. This is crucial. Unfortunately using the RIG engine isn't an option for the time being, but you might want to consider that in the future.

Is rig even necessary now? You can package games as .ccgame and vs can deploy em directly?
Yea, thats fair criticism. If poeple want it i can polish it.

I am thinking about just making it a site that hosts the games and allows for direct linking to files. Because ZuneBoards seems to have the database and forums handled. But there still needs to be a way to provide direct downloads instead of using the sites like mediafire.

RIG is crucial for the Book Reader. People would have to either use Visual C# and XNA to deploy it, or use RIG. The .ccgame package does not allow for dynamic content, as truck said.

I'd personally have something more similar to Steam. Although that would be a major feat.
Once again, DownloadManager was something to do this. if enough people here want that, it is definitely possible. I hacve experience merging C# with PHP, I am writing software much like this for a client now.
If enough poeple want it, i will do it.
