Default What is going to happento the 'games' menu when the update is released?

Since Microsoft is going to have it's own games with the next update, what is going to happen to the games menu we already have from c# and XNA? I'm going to play it safe and just get rid of the games menu I have now and wait for the update to do it's own thing. I don't want to risk screwing up my zune during the update, and I just don't want the annoyance of having 2 'games' menus.

Does anyone know?

That is a good question. I have no idea.

It'll probably just add the 2 new games w/ the ones we already have. also, it looks like the zune doesn't restart anymore after quitting a game.

Keep the games as long as possible. You can always wipe it before installing the new firmware.

Well too late for that, but it wasn't a really big deal to me with the games. I enjoyed them when they came out,but I just lost interest in playing them and it was kind of boring to have a whole bunch of wi-fi enabled games but no one else to play them with.

But now with the new update coming so everyone has games, and with Texas-Hold Em', I will probably play that more with some other friends because I enjoy poker, and actually having a game other people know exist seems to be more enjoyable then beating a computer 500-0 at pong over and over again.

I have been wondering the same thing. I thought about waiting to update my zune until someone else does and hopefully will tell us the results. (but i really don't want to have to wait any longer for this flipping sweet update!!!)

I would think that Microsoft would cater to the developer community. Also, Microsoft themselves have been working with the XNA 3.0 CTP I'm sure, so they would know if there were any problems caused by having games on it already. I wouldn't worry about it.

I totally agree with Link. I doubt microsoft is using any thing more than XNA 3.0 (probnably beta though) to make the game.s They know of teh restart problem, and teh foreign char problem. I garantee it will be seamless, microsoft doesn't want to piss of dev communities.

Will they be charging for the games?

Or more importantly:

Will they be charging a lot for the games?

If they go commercial with it, that's probably part of the plan. However, if they do commercial games, it's uncertain whether they'll be based on the same XNA platform that the existing development environment is based on. The only confirmed info is that the Zune firmware 3.0 is going to include Hexic and Texas holdem. It's unknown whether these games are implemented through XNA or in native code (which runs faster and can do more than what XNA allows).

I bet they will charge for games which I can't blame them for. However, I'm sure they will still let us develope them and distribute them for free so I wouldn't worry.

yep they will most likely charge for some games they might have a few games for free just to get us attracted to them. But they will still let us develop games with xna and distribute how ever we want.

Just curious
