Default RIG Deployment Platform: for users

Quote:
RIG, which stands for RIG Installs Games, is an open source framework that, for the first time, makes it possible to install Zune games and other applications without installing development tools that were previously necessary. The RIG Deployment Platform provides an intuitive user interface that leads you through the deployment process in just a few clicks. Any application can be enhanced with RIG: the RIG Development Kit makes it painless for developers to add immense value to their applications.
RIG lets you install Zune games/apps on any system with the Zune software. No C#, no XNA. x86 or x64. RIG destroys the barriers to Zune gaming so that all you have to do is download, run, and enjoy.

RIG application directory - download programs with RIG here

RIG can be added to any game/app. If you're a developer, check out the information for developers.

AMAZING!
I'm deploying gold chase now!
And I never had to start up Visual C#.
+Rep.
This will really help the Zewbies put games one their zunes.

But, One question. So the first time that you deploy a game it transfers a bunch of files to the zune that enable the playing of games and puts GAMES on the main menu. Does the installer do that?

^^ Never mind. I figured it out.

Groove has now been added to the app directory. This brings the total number of listed games to 5, the other 4 being SIR TET, Gold Chase, Running Man, and Solitaire.

If you're a game developer, you can get your game listed in the directory: see RIG for developers for details.

I must have missed the discussion on RIG. How did it start, and how does it work?

Other than that, its fantastic. I deployed RunningMan today. I feel like this unified platform will help developement tremendously. How can we extend it? Maybe install counts.

Itsnotabigtruck - if you can give me the program source, I can write an updator: A windows client software that every time elapse (probably every day) would ping a server( which I have) to get the latest version of the program and download it. I can write that all in C# I woiulkd just need to know how RIG gets its data from the zune.

Its fantastic, +REP!

Ok. I will be sure to use RIG with Asteroids. I hope to convert it tonight.

I also propose an rig.xml file in each game project. This would allow a program, which I offer to write, access the xml file and ensure each game is updated. It could be a client software, that is in the taskbar and checks every a day (for example).

The xml file would have:
Author
Release Date
Version
Version tracker Url

Just a suggestion, but I think it would be a great addition to RIG. I volunteer to write the client software, it would be easy, as I know C# System.Net.WebClient - i woudl use it to check versionhs and download the software.

An even better more streamlined way would to have it check for updates every time you try to install the games.
