Default Original Game Ideas

I have been thinking, and well I have come to the conclusion that I will not make ports of games any more (example: Helicopter Game) but instead for now on I will strive to make games with original ideas, compelling story lines, and awesome gfx done by me. I think it is more important to come up with your own ideas rather then use some one else's ideas because when you come up with new ideas you must think and use your mind. So for now on you will see nothing but brand new ideas from me.

I think all developers should do this. What do you guys think? is this a bad thing or a good thing?

I already have a few good ideas for game, that I think im going to code.

I agree totally. That's what will make the games on zune exclisive. Ports are harder in my opinion to do because you spend so much time coding, trying to make it close to the original presentation. I had an idea for a game. Check out:

Blitz Bolt
and
Avalanche

Thats the way to go....

And... if you someday decide to sell anything, you don't need to think about it... its yours! You can sell it whenever you want. You can present it. You can do whatever you want with it. That is not the case when you do remakes.

Personally, I LOVE to bring my own ideas and imaginations to life. That is exactly why I do this stuff anyway! I want to be creative. How creative is it to do a 1 to 1 copy of an existing game? I would not even start such a project.. but thats just the way I am built....

I love to see your ideas come to life! Start being creative...

No!! You can't tink for yourself!! The internets is communist, it frowns upon original ideas and free thinking. You will work in factory like rests of usses. (that was Russian)

The reason I haven't downloaded any Zune games from here yet is that they're almost all remakes of games I've already played, but if some more original things were brought to the table, I'd probably start downloading some more. I commend you on your effort to be creative, I hope all works out well and your labor is appreciated. Looking forward to see what you've got in store

I was thinking about a game that might be fun and i would guess it is original because i havent come across anything similar, or no one else has been as high as i was when i thought of this....

So the main 'plot' or crap storyline of the game is that a dude discovers that there is a magical refrigerator in the clouds and when you open the fridge you get any wish you want. So he decides to try and get to it and there is only one way, take the elevator to the sky, except the elevator is broken.

Next to the elevator are the stairs (this would be lvl 1) and he has to climb all 20 stories and encounters random horrible monsters and homeless people along the way he has to fight off. his only weapon at this point would be his fists, and a knife, but at the end of the level you get to upgrade your knife to a katana or something B.A. like that.

he gets to the top of the stairs and they randomly end, but hanging above he sees 3 different 'ropes' (lvl 2)and the random guy standing at the top tells him that he can climb ONLY ONE ROPE, so you have to choose at that point.(and i was thinking each rope would have a 'ratio of difficulty to climb/monsters actually on the rope'.....lol - like the left rope is easy to climb, but there are the most monsters on it, the middle rope is kind of hard to climb but not as many monsters, and the final rope is hardest to climb but with the least amount of monsters. I was thinking that you could climb it clicking up on the pad.) and so he has to climb up the ropes to get higher and closer to this bomb-ass magical fridge. At the end of this level the player would get a pistol as another weapon

Finally he starts to hit the clouds (lvl 3) and on this part of the game he would have to dodge airplanes , birds, meteors, and UFO's flying at him. He could blow them up with the pistol and continue. Finally he gets to the highest cloud and at the top is the refrigerator and he gets his wish. and his wish is to fix the elevator. after he makes the wish the fridge implodes and no one else can ever make a wish, and he rides the elevator down, and the end.

So all in all the whole game would be pointless but to me (and probably only me) it sounds like it would be fun as hell lol.

CONTROLS?!?!?!?

click left - move left
click right - move right
click up - jump/climb up
click down - duck/climb down
center - punch/stab/shoot (use weapon basically)
play - brings up a menu (for choosing weapon, saving, quitting, restarting, anything else)
back - pauses game

So yeah, if anyone wants to do this go for it lol.

YOU WANTED ORIGINAL AND YOU GOT IT FROM ME.

actually i think that sounds like a good idea! Most of the games that people play on zune now a days can be played online or on a cell phone! Give it a try, sounds good to me!

new ideas are awesome but some existing games are cool too, i think there should be some more original ideas but remakes are good too.

The problem with this is some programmers are very good at programming, but are not good at all with coming up with ideas and/or creating things out of nothing. Creating remakes is good in several ways: The programmer does not waste a lot of time just trying to think of something new; Often, it challenges the programmer to make something that was created by several professionals; It allows the programmer to focus on getting better at programming instead of spending time doing non-programming related tasks.

If someone wants to be a Game Designer, then it would be good for them to create original games. However, for aspiring Game Programmers, I think it is perfectly fine to create remakes.

It's not that people can't develop original gameplay, it's that the gameplay from classic games is tried and true - it's what made them classic. While original games are A Good Thing, there needs to be a mix of both.

A well-executed remake is infinitely better than a bad attempt at an original design, and unfortunately, original designs are "bad attempts" more often than not. However, when the risk is high, so can be the return, and when a unique idea is done right, it is a great accomplishment.
