I was reading through some wifi wishes from a different site and came across this.
"I love using wifi on my Touch to stream music off my home server. I can be out on the deck or mowing the yard, and listening to music that lives on my server and not on my Touch. I can even listen to music I don't own as there are web sites with free streaming music to try, and videos available from Youtube. I can check my email without booting up a PC. I can check the weather before getting dressed for work in the morning, without booting up a PC or turning on a radio or TV. I can check my stocks on the Touch, again anywhere I am, regardless of how close to a working PC it is. You can see, I hope, why I might like more features on the Zune to take advantage of the wifi I have." I was wondering if there is anyway to make an app for the zune that would make it possible to use the wifi to connect to your comp or server in such situations as sitting on your deck or porch? If so, I think that would be about the best thing since sliced bread! Thanks for reading. |

Noone is going to come running. Are you trying to say you hacked the zune's firmware by 'changing some code in the Zune's HD'? We're not idiots here. And what do you mean you 'Input an IR'? You Input an Infrared Reciever?

yes but like everyone say you would have to hack the firmware, trying that could make your Zune a brick. There's no way to access wifi through XNA and the Zune only uses wifi on the 802.11g for wireless sync. The only way to use wireless is for Zune to Zune ad hoc connection or wireless sync to PC on your wireless network, i suggest you dont attempt it or you'll be wasting alot of time. What's the sense in wanting the net on your Zune to begin w/ just get a sidekick or PPC. Zune doesn't make a good wireless internet device for viewing webpages and all web related content.
and i would like to state for the record Quote:

Browsing the Internet would be stupid, but what I would find very useful is being able to Stream Internet Radio stations via URL to your zune over the WiFi. That'd be awesome. Last edited by Spike! : 06-11-2008 at 09:10 AM. ![]() |

1) Internet-enabled multi-player games. With a central server that other Zune users connect to, it would be kind of neat. It would also get Zune users able to actually find each other. 2) Sending songs to your friends through the Internet. 3) Using your Zune as a pocket wi-fi scanner. 4) Syncing music from your home PC while at work. 5) As others have said, streaming Internet radio stations. 6) Downloading songs from the Zune Marketplace directly to your Zune. 7) Viewing Internet videos. There are probably plenty of other applications that could be made possible with Internet access. Now, I'm not saying it's possible, just that it wouldn't be a useless feature. |

Did...he say that? No. He hypothesized as to good uses of Wi-Fi on a Zune, whether it can be done through hacking or not. These are merely things that such a device would be capable of if the software was designed to accomodate such features, as the actual hardware would not hinder the proper use of such features, again, providing that the firmware could be hacked-unlikely-or that Microsoft actually tried to do so, which is only slightly more likely. ^_^;
