What does CTP mean?

I went to the completed game section of the forum and saw some threads titles that says CTP. I know what is alpha and beta but what is CTP?

the game is done, MS just hasent ironed out the "games" part yet

Neither, it just means that it was made with CTP, there is no real importance in it, and it doesnt change anything

The general progression of software is like this:

CTP -> Alpha -> Beta -> Release Candidate (1, 2, 3... etc) -> Release

So it isn't even in Alpha stages yet? It works pretty good except for that one thing.

Please note, XNA 3 is in CTP. This isn't XNA 1.0. The most CTP-part about it is just the ability to use the zune.

I can deploy like 5-10 games without having to restart my zune, you just have to restart your zune when you're done, and when you're done playing a game.

Though CTP can come before Alpha its actually pretty rare for any company to release an alpha to anyone but internal testers.

Most CTPs especially from Microsoft are designed to give a preview of a certain technology when its needed very early. So for the GS3.0 almost all of the updates are for the Zune. There will be other 3.0 updates that the team are still working on.

The other thing with CTPs is that they are often put out to get a reaction good or bad and see how things work. Sometimes things get totally dropped or changed dramatically. Once you get to beta changes are much less drastic and RC would only have very essential changes.
